| IUP Values Me
Student Spotlight: Davis Kazako
Davis is an English literature major and will graduate this December. He is president of the Pennsylvania chapter of the NAACP, former president of the IUP NAACP chapter, and a member of UBORA Men of IUP. Davis is a strong leader and has been very involved in the NAACP State Conference, State Convention, and Multicultural Student Leadership Team. During the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Summit last week, he was part of a panel discussion, “Amplifying Voices of Diverse Student Leaders.” He has shared his experiences and knowledge in a State System initiative examining diversity policies and graduation rates. While reflecting on his time at IUP, Davis stated that he feels blessed with the opportunities he has been given to help make a difference and to meet so many amazing peers and colleagues. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation, and we thank you, Davis!
Staff Spotlight: Joshua Castle
Joshua is a faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Sport Science who teaches primarily in the Sport Administration program. In 2022, he received the department’s Outstanding Service Award, given to a faculty member who has demonstrated high-quality service, professionalism, and leadership. He chairs the Student Cooperative Association Board of Directors and the Cooperative Finance Committee. Joshua is a member of the Athletic Gender Equity Committee and of the Intercollegiate Athletics Compliance Committee, which reviews the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act reports. He serves as liaison with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the Curt Roberts Step Up to the Plate diversity initiative. We thank you, Joshua!
A note about IUP Values Me: Each week, we highlight one student and one staff member to “shine a spotlight” on their leadership and involvement in campus programs and their great work assisting our campus community with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and/or civil rights awareness. If you have a suggestion for an IUP community member to feature in this section, please email social-equity@iup.edu.
