After super-heating a large bowl, Josh uses centrifugal force to "spin it open" to form a platter.

New Corona Glass!

As a material, Corona Glass - which Josh first developed in the 1980s - is almost completely unpredictable. Its appearance depends on controllable factors, like furnace temperature and oxygen level, and several other barely controllable factors such as room temperature and humidity, and ineffables like the will of the glass gods and the mood of the artist.

Here, the spin-out complete, Josh rushes to his bench to finish forming the now 22" diameter platter.

Working with this glass is quite a challenge, so of course Josh loves it! He continually micro-tweaks his formulas, always aiming to create more vibrant and interesting results. Today we feature a new collection of Corona platters and vases that are especially dramatic.
