Dear Tiger Families,
Welcome to fall! Our school’s view is stunning right now with vibrant yellows and greens against the Colorado blue sky—enjoy it before the snow arrives.
We need your help! RSES is seeking Guest Teachers (substitutes) due to a valley-wide shortage. The process is simple, and you can choose assignments that fit your schedule, subbing only at RSES. Click here to learn how to apply.

Our first School Accountability Committee meeting is Tuesday, October 21st, at 3:15 PM in the library. All are welcome to learn about our academic performance, finances, and more. Thanks to Zac Stevens and Kate Schuetze for serving on the District Accountability Committee as RSES representatives.
Tiger Award Celebrations now happen at the end of each semester. These awards recognize students who exemplify our character traits: Respect, Succeed, Empower, and Solve. Teachers have been teaching and acknowledging when your children demonstrate these traits since the first day of school by awarding them Paw Points and/or class points. Talk to your child about how many points they have earned this year.
Thank you to families working with us to improve attendance. I’m here to support you in ensuring your child is at school on time daily. District policy requires truancy prevention plans when attendance is a challenge, and I want to avoid truancy court by partnering with you. Let's talk if you have concerns or need support.
We look forward to seeing you at parent/teacher conferences next week. If you haven’t signed up yet, please contact your child's teacher!
Warm regards,
Anne C. Heckman

We love partnering with you in your child's learning journey! Morning Drop-Off Reminders:
If you’re between the two crosswalks and your student is capable, they are welcome to hop out on their own—you don’t need to wait for a staff member to open the door. This helps keep our drop-off line moving smoothly.
Please also remember to pull all the way up to the crosswalk. Mrs. Sheets loves getting to greet kids and open car doors. So pull all the way up and make her day!
Thank you for helping us keep mornings safe and efficient!

National Custodian Day | October 2, 2025 |
|
|
| "The heart of the school is kept clean by the hands of our custodians."
"Custodians make the school a home."
"They don't just clean our school, they care for it."
A huge thank you to Lavern and Maria for all they do to keep our school clean, safe, and welcoming. There's so much we could say, but it will never be enough to capture how much we appreciate them. Their hard work and care make such a difference every single day, and we are so grateful for them!

Officer Greg's Halloween Safety Tips
The National Safety Council says kids are twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween than any other day of the year.
- Reflective clothing, glow sticks, flashlights, and costumes with lights can all help nighttime visibility.
|
| |
|
- Check costumes for trip hazards or visibility issues with masks.
- Join kids under 12 and make specific plans, with locations and check in times with kids trick-or-treating by themselves.
- Remind kids to stay together in groups.
- Slow down and use caution when driving through neighborhoods on Halloween.
- Most Importantly, Have Fun!

There are so many ways to get involved at our school—whether it’s lending a hand at recess, helping in the lunchroom, or supporting classroom activities (when teachers request it!). Your time and energy make a big difference, and we’d love to have you join us. If you’re interested, please apply using the information on the flyer. The flyer is also linked.
We are looking for volunteers to help on Wednesday mornings. If you have some extra time in the mornings and would like to lend a hand, we’d love to have you join us. Your support makes such a difference for our students and staff!

Here’s a peek at what some of our Tigers are exploring in STEM this month!
Kindergarten is diving into hands-on experiments all about the five senses, using sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound to investigate the world around them.
1st Grade has been learning about forces and now they are putting their knowledge to the test by building houses with roofs designed to withstand a snowstorm—also known as the flourstorm!
4th Grade students are presenting their incredible biomimicry inventions. The creativity and innovation in this group has been truly impressive! Ask them who is going to be the next George de Mestral (the guy who invented velcro from his walk with his dog).

Dear Families,
Over the next two weeks, we will be concluding the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit. Over the course of four lessons, students have been:
- Recognizing Bullying: Learning what bullying is, how it is different from conflict, and why it is harmful.
- Reporting Bullying: Practicing safe, respectful ways to report bullying to an adult.
- Refusing Bullying: Building skills to stand up to bullying when it is safe to do so, and to support peers who may be targeted.
- Bystander Power: Learning how to be kind, supportive, and take action when they see bullying happening.
Next, we will begin the Second Step Emotion Management Unit. In this unit, students will learn important skills to understand and manage their feelings in healthy ways. Lessons will focus on:
- Recognizing Strong Emotions: Identifying physical and emotional clues that signal strong feelings.
- Calming Down Skills: Practicing strategies such as deep breathing, counting, and positive self-talk to stay in control.
- Problem-Solving: Using calm thinking to make safe and respectful choices when emotions run high.
- Building Empathy: Understanding how emotions affect others and showing kindness and care in response.
These skills help students handle everyday challenges, strengthen relationships, and contribute to a safe, supportive school community.
Coming Up: As part of our commitment to supporting the whole child, our school will be using the BASC-3 BESS (Behavioral and Emotional Screening System) with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders during the week of October 20. This short questionnaire helps us better understand how students are doing socially and emotionally, and how we can best support their success.
This is not an assessment or evaluation, but simply a tool to highlight strengths and areas for growth. More detailed information will be emailed to you soon.
Thank you for partnering with us in supporting your student’s growth and well-being!
Ms. Asia, SEL Teacher
