MASON GIRLS SOCCER NEWS

 RUTOWSKI NAMED

TO SUCCEED SCHUR!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 8, 2023
Mason will return one of their former standout athletes to lead the Comet Girls Soccer Program.  Upon BOE approval, Sami (Samantha) Rutowski has been named to succeed her former head coach, Andy Schur, as the next leader of the girls' soccer program.  Schur recently announced his decision to leave the program and will become the new boys' head coach at Little Miami HS this fall, leaving behind an outstanding legacy for Sami to continue to carry forward (199-44-35 over 14 seasons).
"I am so incredibly excited to give back to the program that has given me so much," said Rutowski. "It truly is an amazing opportunity to take over the Girl's Soccer Program. I cannot wait to begin connecting with the players, families, and communities."
Rutowski (Class of 2013) played for Schur all four years at the varsity level and helped the Comets to a 20-2-1 record as a senior advancing to the state championship game.  She collected 32 goals and 22 assists during her career. Rutowski earned first-team All-Greater Miami Conference honors as a junior and senior, along with first-team All-City and second-team Ohio Division I All-State accolades her final season.
Sami played her collegiate career at Northern Kentucky University where she started 63 of 68 games over four seasons with the Norse. Sami led the team as captain in her junior and senior years. In her senior campaign, Rutowski was part of the most successful Division I season for the Norse where they won the Horizon League Championship, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I tournament. She was a 2014 and 2016 Horizon League All-Academic Team recipient.
Following graduation from NKU, she was a graduate assistant for the Lee University Women's Soccer team.  For the past two seasons, Sami has been a guidance counselor and the girl's head coach at Wyoming HS leading the Cowboys to a record of 28-6-7 over two seasons. In 2021 she guided her team to an OHSAA Division 2 State Runnerup finish.  She was named the Cincinnati Hills League Coach of the Year for the 2022 season.
