Ronnie Coleman and Damien Wicker: Unstoppable Strength

Junior Damien Wicker was a part of a committee of students and staff who got together to submit names for new poster features for the secondary campus hallways in honor of celebrating Black history throughout the month of February.

Damien chose Ronnie Coleman as one of the most impactful Black figures to him. Coleman is considered by many as the most successful bodybuilder ever, winning eight consecutive Mr. Olympia’s and 26 IFBB titles. He also worked as a police officer through most of his bodybuilding career

Damien explained that Ronnie put his all into something he loved, and he found that dedication inspiring.

He pointed out that Coleman changed the way people look at fitness and strength training, he inspired so many to push their limits and go above and beyond what they think is possible in the sport.

Damien is a member of the varsity wrestling team and just helped CAC 3rd at Dual State last weekend for the first time in program history! Like Coleman, Damien says he pushes himself to be better every day. His strength and dedication make him a key part of the wrestling team.

Along with Coleman's mark on bodybuilding, Damien also talked about the significance of Black History Month. He shared that it’s important to him because, “it shows how people of color who got results are just as important as everybody else.” He emphasized that their accomplishments deserve recognition and are to be admired.

Quiz Bowl Takes the Gold!

For the first time in CAC history, the junior high quiz bowl team was named conference champions. The captain of the team, Andrew Patrick, originally joined quiz bowl because he said it looks good for academic scholarships later in life. To be a conference champ, he said, “It feels really good; it was pretty crazy.” The team walked into the competition losing their second game but then came back and ended up winning by five points. To get ready for a competition, Andrew's dad asks him 20 quiz bowl questions every morning.

Spencer Moore is new to CAC and originally joined the quiz bowl team because as a former home-schooled student, he said didn’t have many chances to do extracurricular activities. “I haven’t been a conference champion before so it’s a totally new feeling, and I really like it,” he said. Spencer reads a lot, and he says that helps him really calm down before a competition. He thinks others should join because, “It’s really fun, and even though you may not always be the best ,it’s still really good to know things.” His favorite part about quiz bowl is hanging out with all of the people.

Share love on Valentine's Day 💕

Valentine's Day is coming up this Friday, and it's a great time to let the people who matter most to you know that you love them. Digital Mixed Media II students and sophomores Katie New, Leo Garrison, Baylee Burnette, and Karson Everett designed Valentine's Day cards below. Print them out and give them to your family and friends, or save the images and send an encouraging text. Share all the love!

Speak Up! - The Best of Friends

Valentine's Day is a great opportunity to share love with the people you love most, including your very best friends. We talked with a few students about the importance of friendship.

Ava Wooderson and Alyssa Jansen first became friends when they were seated next to each other in a class last year. What Ava loves about their friendship is, “It’s easy and it doesn’t feel draining.” What makes them both good friends for each other is how open they are with each other. Alyssa’s advice to newer friendships is, “Don’t get mad easily, and don’t take everything personally.” They’ve both changed over this year because they’ve become more similar to each other, including their sense of humor.

Eight graders Brady Bell and Greyson Stricklin first met when they saw each other on the first day of school and realized they looked similar. What they like about their friendship is even in the halls people think they are the same person. What makes them such good friends is that they always make sure to pay attention to each other and listen to what the other one is saying. Greyson’s advice to new friendships is, “Spend time together because you can build a relationship.”
