Symia is a student in the Psychology Honors program with a minor in neurobiology and child and adult advocacy studies. She will graduate this May. She has been a peer educator for the Haven Project for three years and has led many presentations, tabling events, and educational programs on the prevention of sexual violence, domestic/dating violence, stalking, and other forms of sexual misconduct. She has served as a Welcome Week leader and head leader. She is a lab assistant in the Department of Biology, studying aspects of opioid addiction through experimentation on planarians. She has also worked in the IUP Applied Research Lab, assisting with data analysis on outside research projects. This past summer, she participated in the Undergraduate Summer Opportunities for Applying Research (U-SOAR) program and evaluated the effects of psilocybin on mental health disorder symptoms in recreational settings. Symia served as a summer counseling intern at the Open Door in Indiana and is currently working on her applications to graduate school, with the intent to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology. One of her many goals is to become a psychologist in psychedelic-assisted therapeutic research trials in relation to the treatment of mental health problems and addiction. We thank you, Symia!
