The Public is Invited to SBCC’s Physical Education & Athletics Building Groundbreaking Ceremony

The event takes place at the construction site on Monday, April 6, at 10 a.m.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (March 12, 2026) — Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) invites the community to attend the Physical Education (P.E.) & Athletics Building Groundbreaking Ceremony on Monday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The P.E. & Athletics Building is the first project out of the Measure P Bond Extension; This was prioritized to attain matching state funds of $34 million for the project. “From our campus community to the community at large, we hope all can join us for the groundbreaking ceremony,” shared Superintendent/President Erika Endrijonas, Ph.D. “It is exciting to see the P.E. & Athletics Building already deconstructed and moving into the construction phase for our Cliff Campus, as this is the first major building project on campus in almost a decade.”

The P.E. & Athletics Building demolition phase began in June of 2025 and SBCC has provided updates though press releases and the Measure P Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. Learn more about the project at the SBCC P.E. Building Replacement webpage.
