Dear Students,
Your ability to succeed, both academically and personally, is linked to your mental health and well-being. Below you will find resources designed to support you throughout your time on the Forty Acres. But first, there are three important actions we encourage you to take now:
- Set up your TimelyCare account, a free virtual mental health and well-being platform available to currently enrolled students. TimelyCare offers 24/7 on-demand emotional support, scheduled counseling, health coaching and more.
- Put the 24/7 Crisis Line, 512-471-2255, into your phone. If you or a friend are experiencing a mental health crisis, the Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) Crisis Line is available 24 hours a day, every day.
- Watch this short video that explains the warning signs you might see when someone is having a mental health crisis and learn what you can do to help yourself and others.
Take Care of Your Mental Health and Well-being
Whether you are wanting to build a strong foundation of well-being or need assistance during tough times, know that you are surrounded by a caring community that is ready to help when you need it. Our Division of Student Affairs team is here for you.
- The Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) provides mental health support through assessment and referral, group and individual counseling, psychiatry, and other well-being services. Additionally, CMHC has dedicated CARE counselors embedded within each college and school. The vast majority of CMHC services are free. Get connected by calling 512-471-3515.
- Student Outreach and Support in the Office of the Dean of Students provides assistance, intervention and referrals through individualized consultation. They support students navigating challenging or unexpected issues that impact their well-being and academic success. These issues can include, but are not limited to, family emergencies, fire or natural disasters, and medical concerns.
- The Longhorn Wellness Center addresses key well-being topics including mindfulness, sleep, healthy sexuality, bystander intervention, alcohol and consent, and much more. You can participate in the Longhorn SHARE Project, download the free Thrive at UT app or incorporate a mindful moment into your daily routine.
- Recreational Sports offers seven facilities open to enrolled students where you are bound to find something that fuels your well-being. Consider participating in intramural sports, finding community in a sport club, learning a new skill, exploring the outdoors through the adventure trip program or attending group fitness classes.
- SHIFT helps change the culture of campus substance use from one of misuse to one of well-being. Find resources to help student organizations host safer events or learn more about SHIFT Makers.
- The Center for Students in Recovery offers a space where students in recovery from addiction, or in hopes of recovery, can build connections, find a supportive peer-based community, and access academic and recovery-related resources.
Take Care of Each Other
You play a critical role in making our university a place where Longhorns take care of each other. Looking out for one another creates a supportive community where everyone can thrive. Your actions can make a positive difference in someone else's college experience and can help foster a culture in which no one feels alone or unsupported.
Be Well,
