Notice about Data Collection, Goal-Setting and Mid-Year Reporting

The ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis and resulting remote/hybrid teaching and learning environments continue to pose unique challenges to collecting accurate program and student data. As with much this year, flexibility is necessary. Accordingly, START has offered guidance to assist RCN in gathering and submitting beginning of year target student and/or classroom/program data to the best of the RCN’s ability under the prevailing circumstances and conditions in their geographic area. If you have any questions, or need assistance, please contact your START RCN Representative or Jana Benjamin, (616) 331-6482.

2021-2022 Intensive Training Applications

START will be offering its K-12 Intensive Training Series during the 2021-2022 school year. START’s 2021-2022 K-12 IT will be hosted by Kent CAN/Kent ISD in Grand Rapids. Applications to send teams to this training will be available February 3, 2021.

START’s Early Childhood training for 2021-2022 will be offered in the form of two mini-intensive training series of 2-3 modules each, with the same series offered once in the fall and once in the spring. More information about our 2021-2022 Early Childhood trainings, including how to apply to participate, will be available soon.

START will not be holding a 2021-2022 Building Your Future Secondary Transition intensive training series. Instead, we anticipate offering 2-3 standalone trainings focused on transition, to be open statewide. We expect more information about these trainings to be available in the spring.

Introducing the Refreshed START Logo

Last week we launched a refreshed START logo to kick of the celebration of our 20 year anniversary. Collaboration and partnerships are core values of START, and it is critical to us that our logo represent those values. The work of the START Project is only possible through the dedication and commitment of an entire community of educators, families, and partners working together, collaboratively, to support students. We invite you to read more about the intention behind our refreshed logo. In addition, we invited our partners and trainers to update their materials and resources as well. We have launched a new page on our website outlining our standards, formatting, and logo guidelines.

Submitting RCN Standalone Trainings for the START Website

  • Each RCN should submit at least one RCN-provided stand-alone training per semester using START content delivered by START EPLI trainers. The training will be included in the events listing on the START website, and should be open to the RCN and the broader region, including families and community partners. Events should be submitted here.
  • Note: START understands the circumstances and challenges surrounding trainings. This goal can be met through virtual trainings, recordings, webinars, or other training formats.
  • The submitted events will be posted here on the START website as they are received. Please share this with your local contacts!
Statewide Autism Resources and Training (START) Project is funded by the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special
