Oct. 2 marks the 100th anniversary of the first television image, which was transmitted by Scottish inventor John Logie Baird, who would later demonstrate the world’s first mechanical television in January 1926. Media historian Walter Podrazik, UIC adjunct lecturer in communication, has already marked the occasion with a newly expanded fourth edition of his co-authored book “Watching TV,” which chronicles television’s evolution all the way back to “Stooky Bill,” the test puppet used by Baird under the hot lights a century ago. Podrazik can discuss the past century of television and reflect on the current and future state of the medium as programming, technology and viewing habits change.
