Dear Fellow Dons,
We, at the Learning, Writing, and Speaking Centers, are excited to inform you of our end-of-semester events. Aimed at helping you prepare for finals. We will be hosting Academic Skills Workshops via Zoom along with our Finals Study Sessions to offer last-minute academic support with subject tutors, speaking and writing consultants, and reference librarians. Additionally, we have important information about our office hours during finals week and student employment opportunities.
Our main objective is to assist you during this critical time. So, please make the most out of these resources and get the academic support you need to excel in your exams.

The Learning Center is dedicated to enhancing student persistence and self-regulation through academic skills workshops, which include a wide range of topics, such as structured study time, academic mindsets, test-taking and exam preparation strategies, and more. Our ‘Preparing for Finals’ Workshop will arm you with strategies and resources to plan and organize study time, find focus, and confidently engage with your exam material. We invite you to join us in one of our upcoming workshops on Zoom to prepare for finals:

Finals Study Sessions
The Learning, Writing, and Speaking Centers, in collaboration with Gleeson Reference Librarians, are thrilled to announce Finals Study Session event taking place on Thursday, December 7, 2023. This event will be held at Gleeson Library, 2nd Floor Conversation Study area from 12 pm to 4 pm. During this time, students can receive valuable assistance from their fellow Dons to help prepare for their upcoming final exams. The event will feature subject tutors, Writing Center consultants, Speaking Center coaches, and reference librarians, all ready to provide academic support. In addition, coffee and cookies will be available for attendees to enjoy. Keep in mind that with hard work and dedication, you can achieve your academic goals!

LWSC Finals Week Hours
Our office will be open during the final exams period from December 8th to 14th with limited services. The Writing Center will continue to provide online appointments during the hours listed. The Learning and Speaking Center services will end on Thursday, December 7.
- Friday, December 8 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Monday, December 11 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
- Tuesday, December 12 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
- Wednesday, December 13 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

The Learning, Writing, and Speaking Centers (LWSC) offer paid leadership opportunities to students. Currently, The Learning Center is recruiting staff for the spring 2024 semester for the positions of peer tutors, front desk staff, PLTL leaders, SI leaders, and Project Success coaches. Students interested in becoming a Writing Center tutor should enroll in RHET 327/RHET527 - Writing Center Tutoring. Upon successful completion of the course (grade B or higher), students will be eligible to apply for a peer tutoring position in the USF Writing Center.
