RCN Update: Communities of Practice (CoP)
Communities of Practice (CoP)
As a reminder, START has the following CoPs:
  • Educational Supports and Strategies CoP
  • Peer to Peer (P2P) CoP
  • Practical Functional Assessment and Skill-based Treatment (PFA-SBT) CoP
  • Secondary Transition CoP
  • Sexual Health CoP
Please review the information and upcoming meeting dates for each CoP below and disseminate this information within your RCN. Registration for upcoming meetings is also linked below. This information is available here on the START website.
Over the next week, START will also send this information to each CoP's members. Please contact START or the CoP contacts listed below if you have any questions.
Educational Supports and Strategies (ESS) Community of Practice (CoP)
The ESS CoP will have meetings on the following dates in 2022-2023:
  • November 17, 2022, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Virtual
  • February 15, 2023, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Virtual
  • May 10, 2023, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Virtual
CoP Information:
  • Members: Each RCN is encouraged to have representation, which includes special and general educators. New RCN members are welcome!   
  • Note: Registration information for the first meeting of the year will be emailed to RCN contacts and 2021-2022 ESS CoP members.

Peer to Peer (P2P) Community of Practice (CoP)
The P2P CoP will have meetings on the following dates in 2022-2023:
CoP Information:
  • Members: Each RCN should have at least two representatives participate in the P2P CoP (multi-county RCN may have 1 representative per ISD). 
  • Note: Registration information for the first meeting of the year will be emailed to RCN contacts and 2021-2022 P2P CoP members.

Practical Functional Assessment and Skill-based Treatment (PFA-SBT) Community of Practice (CoP)

The PFA-SBT CoP will have meetings on the following dates in 2022-2023:
  • September 19, 2022, 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., Virtual
  • November 9, 2022, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Virtual
  • February 23, 2023, 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Virtual
  • May 17, 2023, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., In-person (location TBA)
  • Registration for the remainder of the year will be available at a later date.
CoP Information:
  • Note: Registration information for the first meeting of the year will be emailed to RCN contacts and PFA/SBT implementation leaders. 
  • Members: PFA/SBT implementation leaders working directly with START and FTF

Secondary Transition Community of Practice (CoP)

The Secondary Transition
CoP will have meetings on the following dates in 2022-2023:
  • October 19, 2022, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Virtual
  • December 14, 2022, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Virtual
  • February 15, 2023, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Virtual
  • April 19, 2023, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Virtual
CoP Information:
  • Members: Each RCN is encouraged to have representation. 
  • Note: Registration information for the first meeting of the year will be emailed to RCN contacts and those that attended the full Secondary Transition pilot last year (even if not affiliated with the RCN).

Sexual Health Community of Practice (CoP)
The Sexual Health CoP will have meetings on the following dates in 2022-2023:
  • September 22, 2022, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Virtual
  • December 15, 2022, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Virtual
  • March 16, 2023, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Virtual
  • May 25, 2023, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Virtual
CoP Information:
  • Members: Each RCN should have at least one representative participate in the Sexual Health CoP. 
  • Note: More information for the first meeting of the year will be emailed to RCN contacts and Sexual Health CoP members.

Statewide Autism Resources and Training (START) Project is funded by the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special 
Education to provide training and technical assistance to educators in Michigan that serve students with ASD.
