Program: 2025 Blavatnik National Awards for Young Scientists
Synopsis: Supports, honors and celebrate young faculty members working in the three disciplinary categories of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, and Chemical Sciences. Nominations are accepted from a invited group of research universities, independent research institutions, academic medical centers, and government laboratories from around the United States. Nominees must have been in or after 1983; currently hold a tenured or tenured-track position at an invited institution; hold a doctorate; conduct independent research in one of the disciplinary categories in the Life Sciences; Physical Sciences & Engineering; and Chemical Sciences. Nominations of qualified members of underrepresented groups encouraged.

Program: Luce / ACLS Early Career Fellowships in China Studies – Flexible
Synopsis: Supports early career scholars for research, writing, and publicly engaged scholarship on any topic related to the cultures, histories, and societies in China, and their influence and impact on communities, countries, and cultures around the world, as required by the research plan. Flexible research fellowships will enable recent Ph.D. 's (without tenure and within eight years of the Ph.D.) with heavy teaching and service responsibilities to carry out research and writing towards a significant scholarly product.
Award details: $15K ($5K per month for 3 months). These flexible, short-term awards may be used for access to online archives, travel, conference participation, childcare or elder care, and other needs identified in the application essay for accomplishing the proposed objectives. National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine
Program: 2025 Jefferson Science Fellowships
Synopsis: Supports tenured, or similarly ranked, faculty from U.S. institutions of higher learning who are U.S. citizens to engage in the U.S. foreign policy and international development process through a one-year immersive experience at the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Fellows are embedded at State or USAID where they become conversant in operations and processes while contributing their technical expertise to policy formulation and implementation. Faculty returns with a deeper understanding of policy, diplomacy, and international development to augment their research and teaching.
Award details: Applicant’s institution is expected, via a signed MOU, to continue the Fellow’s salary for the year-long fellowship. All fellows are expected to be in the Washington DC metro area and those traveling outside DC are eligible for reimbursement of select local living expenses up to a fixed amount over the 12-month period (approximately $55K). USAID host offices will provide travel and training funds up to $10K.

Program: 2025-2026 Faculty for the Future
Synopsis: Supports the long-term goal to accelerate gender equality in STEM by creating conditions that encourage more women to pursue scientific careers by alleviating the barriers they encounter when enrolling in STEM disciplines. The program is committed to gender parity in science in the interests of sustainable development and recognizes that full access and participation in a STEM curriculum is essential for the empowerment of girls and women. The program awards fellowships for advanced research in STEM at leading research institutions. Fellows are expected to return to their home counties upon completion of their studies to contribute to the economic, social and technological advancement of their regions by strengthening the STEM teaching and research faculties of their home institutions, as well as their leadership in science-based entrepreneurship. Fellows are expected to contribute to the public sector where their newly acquired technical and scientific skills can help provide evidence-based support for STEM policymaking, including topics of gender representation. Eligible candidates for this award are citizens of a developing country, are preparing for a Ph.D. or postdoctoral research in a STEM discipline, and are committed to returning to their home countries.

Programs: Topic A: Prevalence of various forms of distractions and factors that Influence driver engagement; and Topic B: Individual, social, and contextual factors that impact motorists' decisions to drive while impaired
Synopsis: Supports research centered on Driver behavior and performance. Research intended to identify the causes and consequences of motor vehicle crashes, evaluate possible countermeasures and solutions, and offer recommendations for achieving the overarching goal of preventing injuries and fatalities on the nation's highways. Topic A seeks to synthesize and update recent developments documenting new and emerging forms of distraction as well as their prevalence. The scope of the proposed research must include but should not be limited to distraction from smartphones.
Topic B seeks to understand what factors are involved and how these factors impact decision-making to drive or not drive while impaired. Research ought to identify effective strategies for reducing the incidence of driving while impaired, especially among populations at increased risk. Minimally, proposals must address alcohol impairment but may elect to explore other sources of impairment as well.
Award details: Budget should reflect the needs of the project. Maximum indirect rate is 20%.

- What can be learned from historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) on how to support retention, recruitment and degree completion for students from marginalized groups?

Award details: Funds can support research assistance, data acquisition, data analysis, and investigator time. Trustee grants are capped at $200K, including 15% indirect costs, over a 2-year period. Program: Postdoctoral Fellowship
Synopsis: Supports early career scholars working in critical areas of education research. This non-residential fellowship supports scholars who promise to make significant contributions to the field of education and advances the careers of the recipients. Scholars may conduct their research at their home institution or at another research site that they have arranged. Research topics must focus primarily on education, but the fellowship welcomes postdocs from any academic discipline or professional field. Fellowship recipients have included individuals from anthropology, architecture, art history, communications, economics, education, history, linguistics, literature, philosophy, political science, psychology, public health, religion, and sociology. The fellowship does not limit eligibility to these fields. Candidates should demonstrate their interest in conducting education research long term. Eligible applicants have received their Ph.D. or Ed.D or equivalent research degree between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2023. Applicants must be non-tenured at the time of application, but have an established record of research experience in education and the project must be in educational research.

Synopsis: Supports startups advancing innovation in the circular bioeconomy. As a growing global sector, the circular bioeconomy uses biology to create valuable bio-based chemicals, materials, energy, and consumer products from sustainably sourced organic materials, including by repurposing agricultural by-products, forestry residues, and other organic waste-streams. California is poised to become a national leader in circular bioeconomy innovation for efforts to advance bio-based products and climate solutions, and is home to a growing ecosystem of public and private partners dedicated to supporting bioindustry scale-up.
Award details: $30K of non-dilutive funding and up to $100K in venture funding to five innovative, high-growth startups each year for 3 months. (1) Forge pathways that connect societal priorities for health improvements, research ideas, and commercial incentives to facilitate support for knowledge generation, and application of effective innovations to prevent and improve clinical encounters.
(2) Develop a blueprint for action that builds to reimagined funding models, to policy changes, and to industry investments that produce transformative gains in lives saved and population health.
(3) Galvanize a core group of champions for strengthened national health research funding to inform approaches for prevention and improvement in clinical encounters. The Collective invites the research community to help define an actionable blueprint for progress. What are the research priorities, incentive structures, and missed opportunities for innovation that hold the greatest potential to prevent disease or improve health outcomes from clinical encounters? The Collective is seeking symposia hosts who demonstrate a whole-of-organization perspective and commitment to societal priorities and existing public sector goals and frameworks for health progress, as applicable, and with relevant community and commercial sector engagement in their proposals.

Synopsis: supports researchers and scientists at various stages of their careers in order to advance the understanding of TANGO2 deficiency disorder (TDD) and its basic disease mechanisms, identify innovative approaches to therapeutics, and develop strategies that support patients living with TDD. The T2RF Grant Cycle 5 awards provide essential funding for high-quality, rigorous seed or pilot research, fostering the exploration of groundbreaking research concepts. The program is intended for senior postdoctoral scholars or equivalent researchers whose backgrounds and experiences are underrepresented in science and whose future research program advances research in the areas of science supported by the Simons Foundation’s Autism and Neuroscience division, specifically, Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI), consistent with SFARI scientific perspectives and Simons Collaboration on Plasticity and the Aging Brain (SCPAB), consistent with the SCPAB's mission. Fellows are expected to transition to a tenure-track or equivalent faculty position any time between notification of their selection for the award and the end of the 2026-2027 academic year. Program: Building Synthetic Microbial Communities for Biology, Mitigating Climate Change, Sustainability and Biotechnology (Synthetic Communities)

Synopsis: Supports projects that use a model synthetic microbial community to better understand the formation, maintenance or functionality of natural communities and to understand a natural community's impact on the host, when applicable. NSF also seeks projects that create synthetic communities with novel capabilities and aim to understand the biological underpinnings for these novel capabilities. Projects that address fundamental biological principles at any scale, from the molecular to the ecosystem scale, are welcome. This solicitation aims to build a comprehensive biological knowledge base that scientists can use to rationally design synthetic microbial communities with novel applications in climate resiliency, sustainability, biotechnology, and bio manufacturing. Proposals recommended for funding will be reviewed for compliance with best practices and standards as set out by the US AI Safety Institute and US government policies and guidelines on biosafety, biosecurity, dual use research in the life sciences, potential enhanced pandemic pathogen research, and safe and responsible use of AI. Researchers are encouraged to contact Program Officers with questions and further clarifications regarding programmatic fit.
Award details: Available program funding is approximately $8M to $10M. Budget requests and duration should be commensurate with the scope of the project.
