The Clinical and Translational Research Funding Program (CTRFP) provides ICTS members with the opportunity to apply for funds to promote the translation of scientific discoveries into improvements in human health. The deadline to submit a letter of intent is no later than Monday, June 23, 2025, at 5:00pm CT.

The WashU Center for Community Health Partnership and Research (CCHPR) is remembering a close community partner in Pat Penelton, who was tragically killed in the devastating tornado in St. Louis on May 16, 2025. The CCHPR is continuing to assist in the rebuilding efforts for Centennial Christian Church, as well, whose partnership CCHPR leadership has likened to a friendship over the past several years.

ICTS-supported Facility Accelerates Translation of Promising Research into Improving Outcomes for Cancer and Other Related Diseases |
|

Housed within the Siteman Cancer Center, the Biologic Therapy Core Facility (BTCF) partners with physicians and scientists to manufacture, characterize, and release complex, clinical-grade cell and gene therapy products, vaccines, imaging agents, and other biologics to support early-phase clinical trials. The BTCF currently works with 56 investigators from 6 departments across WashU. It supports 20 manufacturing programs (58% of them being for cancer research) and 30 clinical trials with 800 subjects enrolled.

ICTS JIT Core Spotlight - Hermann Center for Child and Family Development (HCCFD) |

The HCCFD provides expert consultation on study design, helping researchers craft rigorous and developmentally appropriate research protocols focused on early childhood mental health (through age 7). The Center’s prevention and intervention programs are focused on serving children as early as infancy, and also has clinical programs and resources that can improve outcomes for the entire family unit.

In her role, Nicole Fetcho, MHA, concentrates on project management and research accessibility and works to advance the center’s scope and mission by building collaborations between students, researchers, and St. Louis community stakeholders using the Public Health Data & Training Center’s resources. Fetcho offers consultations to connect with the right data team and discover resources available at WashU.

Joyce (Joy) Balls-Berry, PhD, ICTS Precision Health Associate Lead, was recently awarded the 2025 Dean's Impact Award! Balls-Berry was also recently named a 40 for 40 MLK servant leader, which recognizes 40 exceptional individuals in the St. Louis community who exemplify Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s principles of servant leadership, and align with the Gateway Region YMCA's mission to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Megan Cooper, MD, PhD, ICTS Precision Health Lead, was recently awarded a 5-year $12.4M P01 grant from the NIH to investigate genetic mechanisms of rare disorders of the immune system that lead to immune deficiency and dysregulation. This project seeks to address the 70% of patients with these diseases who remain undiagnosed. Cooper and her colleagues will investigate alternative genetic mechanisms of disease including somatic mutations and test samples from 2000 currently undiagnosed patients.

Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC) to Offer Summer 3-Week Intensive Course on Bench Fundamentals for Translational Research
This course will introduce fellows-in-training and future physician-scientists to the core principles of scientific investigation. This unique three-week intensive format will combine theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on applications to provide students with an understanding of common research approaches used in current scientific endeavors. The course will run from July 7 to July 25, 2025 and will be both virtual and in-person. Register for the course by July 1, 2025.

| Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC) Opens Enrollment for Clinical Investigation Bootcamp
This fall, the CRTC will launch its Clinical Investigation Bootcamp, a 1-2 year program designed to cover the core competencies of clinical research and investigation! Get hands-on experience and build your expertise with this collection of 3 courses covering study design, statistical approaches, and scientific communication. Bootcamp credits can be applied toward the Clinical Investigation Graduate Certificate or Master of Science Degree. Enrollment is open now through August 1, 2025.
