GLP-1 medications have expanded treatment options for obesity, but long-term success requires more than medication alone. Alison Newman, a clinical health psychologist in the Bariatric Surgery Program at UI Health, said it is common for patients to experience weight fluctuations, including regaining some weight after reaching their lowest weight. People also may face emotional challenges related to body image, changing relationships and reactions from others about their weight or appearance. Newman can address the importance of maintaining healthy behaviors, managing expectations and developing sustainable habits for lifelong health. She is also available to discuss the psychological coping skills that support long-term success with GLP-1 medications, including navigating social and relationship changes and overcoming barriers to healthy choices.

Threats and violence against legislative staff |
State legislative staff, the front line for frustrated constituents navigating a complex government, face widespread harassment, threats and violence, according to a new report co-authored by Alexandra Filindra, professor of political science and psychology at UIC. Based on a fall 2025 survey, the study finds that confusion about government processes, unmet expectations and entitlement drive abusive behavior toward staff, who often absorb anger intended for elected officials, regardless of whether they are Democrats or Republicans. The report also notes growing bipartisan support for measures to improve staff and lawmaker safety. Filindra, who is in Greece through late July, is available to discuss the issue's scope, causes and solutions.
