The weather is warmer, and summer at UW-Whitewater is in full swing. Special Olympics Wisconsin rolls onto campus this week for the 2025 Summer Games, which includes more than 1,200 athletes and their families. Summer camps and clinics begin next week. SOAR sessions will also keep campus buzzing with energy.
We wish the best of luck to the Warhawk baseball team, which is competing this week at the NCAA Division III World Series!

Enactus wins national championship |
UW-Whitewater Enactus was named 2025 Enactus USA champion at a national expo in May. The team will represent the United States and compete alongside more than 30 other countries at the Enactus World Cup this September in Thailand.

Beto Patino Luna, a geography major from Janesville, is one of just 441 recipients nationwide — including eight from Wisconsin — to earn a Goldwater Scholarship, one of the nation’s most prestigious undergraduate scholarship.

Kudos to Professor Barbara Grubel of the Department of Theatre/Dance, who has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Dance Council. The award will be shared at the Statewide Conference and Award Ceremony on Oct. 11, 2025, at the Fine Arts Institute at East High School in Green Bay.

Kudos to Pamela Tesch, adjunct instructor of world languages and cultures, and Timothy Holian, senior lecturer of world languages and cultures, who delivered presentations at the 49th Annual Symposium of The Society for German American Studies, “German Americans in Print,” held April 24-26 in Milwaukee. Tesch presented “Working from Home: Lessons from Die deutsche Hausfrau: Monatsschrift fuer die Frauenwelt Amerikas (January–December 1920),” and Holian presented “Qualität setzt sich durch: German American Brewers and Print Advertising in the Pre-Prohibition Era.” 49th Annual Symposium article »

Art education students Judith Perez of Delavan and Emma Siskoff of New Berlin (pictured), along with alum Kelly Marie Hausknecht, were among eight artists chosen by the Whitewater Public Arts Commission for the 2025 Traffic Box Art Project. Alum Hollyn Peterson was named an alternate. The project is part of the city’s ongoing commitment to public art and community engagement.

Two UW-Whitewater athletics coaches recently reached 800 career wins, and they both did it in NCAA Super Regional games. On May 22, head softball coach Brenda Volk earned her 800th career victory as the Warhawks defeated St. Mary’s (MN) 5-3. One day later, head baseball coach John Vodenlich achieved the milestone as UW-Whitewater topped UW-Oshkosh 14-1.

Sandy Dunst, a UW-Whitewater graduate and chair of the university’s foundation board, has been selected to the 2025 BizTimes Media Notable Nonprofit Board Leaders list.
