Dear colleagues,
Please join me in thanking the Student Affairs Navigating Elections Working Group, led by Associate Vice President Mike Patterson, for their thoughtful work in preparing for this year’s election season. I hope you continue to take advantage of the resources available to engage in constructive dialogue, help navigate stress, and foster connections with one another through civic involvement. In the ongoing pursuit of our Vision 2026 Democracy Initiative, William & Mary remains focused on illuminating the rights and obligations of 21st-century citizenship.

Here are the top 5 things to know this week:
|
-
Last week, I shared an opportunity to participate in a study conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the American Association of Colleges and Universities, and the Society for Experiential Education. This research aims to better understand how faculty and staff are connecting experiential learning and high-impact learning practices with career preparation for students. Please complete the short survey ahead of the December 31 deadline and add your name and email at the end of the survey if you would like to enter drawings for five prizes of $100 Amazon gift cards.
-
Introducing WREN Advisors: Launching in the Spring of 2025, the Wellness & Resilience Empowerment Network (WREN) is a new program designed to train faculty to support members of the William & Mary campus community. Faculty, once trained, will serve as WREN Advisors, meeting one-on-one with members of the W&M community to directly connect individuals to mental health and wellness resources specific to their needs. WREN advisors will participate in four two-hour training sessions from January to April.

- The selection process for the 2024 Shirley Aceto Award will begin in December. Please consult with your dean on their preferred process for receiving nominations.
-
The W&M community celebrates this year’s recipients of the Catron Scholarship for Artistic Development. Featured works by the Scholars will be on display in the Hart Gallery in Sadler Center November 11–22. On Thursday, November 14, from 5–7 p.m., each of the Scholars will present their work at a reception.
-
On this Veterans Day, we honor and thank military veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. I encourage you to read the recent op-ed by Kathleen Jabs, Special Assistant for Military and Veteran Affairs, Office of the President, highlighting examples of organizations (like W&M) working to integrate service members, veterans, and their families into their institutional culture. W&M’s military and veteran community has also already hosted multiple observances over the past week. Be sure to check the schedule for any upcoming opportunities to participate. As a reminder, military and veteran students have free access to resources at the McLeod Tyler Wellness Center.
