The GW SMHS RMC leadership is thrilled to provide an update on all the activities of the RMC this spring. The class of 2027 has now completed all of their core clerkships and thrived here at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. We have truly enjoyed their integration into all aspects of the clinical learning environment, and they are actively preparing their plans for next year and the next match cycle.

Speaking of Match…. All 3 deans participated in the class of 2026 match day ceremony on the Foggy Bottom campus, and we were thrilled with the outcomes from the 8 RMC students who successfully matched. As you can see from the list, the students matched in highly competitive specialties across the country. We are excited to watch them grow into outstanding physicians.

In other news, we recently began to roll out our comprehensive faculty development program with great attendance at our Sinai Hospital Town Hall on March 11th. More than 30 faculty participated, and we have a second opportunity for them in April. April also ends our recruitment season for the class of 2030! We host a second look for the admitted students on April 16th. Class of 2026 

We were so excited to share in the Match Day celebrations at the Foggy Bottom campus.  In addition to the successes of RMC students, we look forward to the arrival of two GW students who will spend their internship in Preliminary Medicine at Sinai Hospital.

 Class of 2027 

Despite the busy clerkship year, Basil Considine, was able to attend Rare Diseases Week on Capitol Hill to discuss the impact of prior authorizations on patient care and briefly meet with Senator Amy Klobuchar.

Nora Fadul and her team achieved a second place win for their research poster "Don' t Bug Me: Conservative Mx in Uncomplicated Diverticulitis is Associated with Improved Outcomes” at the Richard B. Williams ACP Medical Student Conference for Mid-Atlantic Chapters.

Setting Students Up For Success

As the Academic Student Affairs Dean for the RMC, I am here to meet with students
who are experiencing challenges and to help them rise to the occasion and persevere
by connecting them with resources like tutoring and counseling, and by providing
advice.

Even more important than being available when students need assistance, my goal is to proactively set students up for success. During upcoming Intersessions, I will be
meeting with students to give them ideas on best practices for managing studying while
on clinical rotations, and reminding them of when they might want to reach out for
assistance or how they can suggest resources to help a fellow student.

We have created Blackboard resources to help the RMC students, with information like
primary care doctors who will take their student insurance, where to find an apartment,
and fun things to enjoy in Baltimore. I am working with GW IT to integrate GW Chat, a
closed proprietary chat bot into the search capability on the SHMS website to make it
easier to find the information students (and faculty) need as quickly and easily as
possible.

Faculty Development – Now Mandatory!

On March 11, during the Spring RMC Town Hall, Drs. Green, Krugman, and Sharps led
a faculty development session on narrative feedback and how to deliver better
comments to our learners in a way that helps them understand how to grow and
improve.

This topic was chosen based on feedback from student end of clerkship
evaluations as well as the ACGME resident and faculty surveys. The session was
interactive, and was well-received by the approximately fifty faculty in attendance.
