Friday, March 10, 2023 GAE Call to Action - Stop SB 233, A Radical, Massive Voucher Bill
MASSIVE, RADICAL VOUCHER BILL
EXPECTED TO BE HEARD NEXT WEEK
EMAIL MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE EDUCATION COMMITTEE TODAY
A bill that would result in the biggest expansion of private school vouchers in Georgia is expected to be heard in the House Education Committee next week.
SB 233 proposes to expand taxpayer-funded private school subsidies to more than 400,000 students and could cost taxpayers and low-wealth school systems $240 million each year.
The subsidy provided in the bill, $6,000 each year, is almost double the amount the state spends on public school students. SB 233 literally takes tax dollars from high-need schools and siphons it off to private schools.
