Maseeh College is celebrating 50 years of engineering, highlighting our school's anniversary of officially offering "engineering" as a course of study. After years of lobbying and political pressure, in 1973, the State Board of Higher Education approved changing the name of PSU’s Department of Applied Science in the College of Science to the Department of Applied Science and Engineering. This was a key step in our journey to becoming first the School of Engineering and Applied Science (1982) and to transforming ultimately into the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science (2004). Read a fuller account of our growth and transitions on our history page.)

To mark this Maseeh milestone, we’re organizing some events, activities, and social media posts. If any departments or groups would like to connect their activities with this year-long campaign, please let us know via email. Students, staff, and faculty can grab a commemorative sticker and a copy of our Maseeh Pocket History (available in Advising or in the Dean's Office), and follow us on social media to check out and comment on some vintage images and memories from our history. In addition to taking pride in our accomplishments and perseverance, we would also like to take this moment to look forward; we’re excited about cultivating the school as a hub for indigenous and BIPOC STEM as well as our new series of outreach and support program, the Futures Initiative.
