Welcome to a Spartan’s favorite month, where all things are green. “Madness” in the form of sports also sets in, and while the month is traditionally known for basketball tournaments, the hockey and gymnastics teams are also in it to win it. Go GREEN! This is also the month where students can sometimes get a bit restless and rambunctious; weather becomes nicer, St. Patrick’s Day and sports bring celebrations. Please remind your student of the medical amnesty policy and that MSU has supports for students with questions about their own or others’ behaviors. It’s also important to remember that all choices have consequences, and we hope students make good choices. If you are concerned about a student, please let the Care and Intervention Team know so we can provide them with supportive resources. This Care Report can be completed by anyone regarding any member of the MSU community, including students, faculty and staff.
Spring also brings fall semester enrollment. All current students received an email from the Office of the Registrar with the day and time they will be able to enroll in fall semester classes. That day and time is also available in their SIS portal. Those enrollment times begin March 17 and continue until March 31 when enrollment is available for all students. And to the nearly 8,000 students planning to graduate this semester, commencement activities will be nearing the top of the priority list. The answers to all of your questions about commencements (parking, event times, locations, accessibility, etc.) can be found at commencement.msu.edu. Congratulations to all!
We hope you have a wonderful month and a little bit of that green Spartan luck!
Take care,
Laurin

First-Year Student On-Campus Housing Sign-Up for 2025-26
The 2025-26 housing contract is now available through your student’s My Housing account. To participate in the housing selection process, contracts must be signed by March 11.
In March, students who have signed their contracts will receive an email with a randomly assigned 24-hour window to select their housing. Once a space is chosen, it is final, and room changes will not be available until after move-in.

New Dining Option Coming to Crossroads Food Court
Starting March 10, MSU Culinary Services will pilot a brand-new dining venue at Crossroads Food Court in the International Center. Sabor will bring fresh, customizable Latin-style cuisine to campus — think along the lines of Qdoba — where you can build your perfect meal with a variety of flavorful ingredients.
Culinary Services is eager to introduce this new concept and looks forward to gathering student feedback throughout the pilot. Encourage your student to stop by, give it a try and let us know what you think!

Dining Plan Price Adjustments Effective May 5
Beginning May 5, MSU Culinary Services will implement a $0.50 per access increase for off-campus student block plans, faculty/staff dining plans and public door rates. This adjustment ensures we continue to provide high-quality dining experiences while managing rising operational costs.
Students who purchase off-campus block plans before May 5 will lock in the current rate of $9 per meal, and those meals will carry over as long as they remain an MSU student.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we strive to offer exceptional dining options across campus.

Culinary Services Invites Students to Choose the End of Semester Dinner Menu
MSU Culinary Services is shaking things up for this year’s End of Semester Dinner — and we’re putting the power in students' hands! Instead of our traditional upscale selections, we’re asking Spartans to tell us what THEY want to eat.
A campus-wide survey will be sent out, giving students the opportunity to submit their favorite meal ideas. The most popular selections will then be featured in dining halls across MSU’s neighborhoods, making this year’s event truly for students, by students.
“This is a great opportunity to celebrate the end of the semester with the dishes our students actually crave,” said Rebecca Selesky, assistant vice president of Culinary Services. “We want them to feel heard and enjoy a meal that feels personal and special.”
The End of Semester Dinner is a highly anticipated event that brings the Spartan community together to relax, refuel and celebrate their hard work before finals. Whether it’s comfort food, international flavors or campus favorites, students now have a say in shaping this beloved tradition.

By mid-2025, 14 Verizon sites at MSU will be transformed into “Small Cell Sites,” enhancing both 4G and 5G coverage. These upgrades involve installing new antennas and cutting-edge 5G radio technologies, promising stronger signals and faster data speeds. To learn more about these enhancements, read more.

MSU Department of Police and Public Safety
Applications for the 2025-2026 Spartan Envoy Program are open! This is a year-long internship opportunity focused on campus safety, for those interested in understanding and improving overall campus safety at Michigan State University.
Additionally, DPPS successfully on-boarded and tested new outdoor sirens at MSU Auditorium and the MSU Union. There are now 10 outdoor sirens programmed to play a tone when an emergency notification is sent. The sirens will be tested again March 19 with the Statewide Tornado Drill at 1 p.m.

MSU Adopts the Okanagan Charter, UHW Launches the Health and Well-Being Plan
In order to create a culture of care, Michigan State University has adopted the Okanagan Charter, which calls on higher education institutions to embed health into all aspects of campus culture and to lead health promotion action and collaboration locally and globally. Along with adopting the Okanagan Charter, MSU Health and Wellbeing is also launching the University Health and Wellbeing Plan. Insights from over 5,000 students, faculty and staff, along with contributions from steering and advisory committees, were instrumental in shaping the plan. The priorities and objectives outlined in the plan will serve as the north star for developing strategies and taking action over the next five years.
Spartan Wellbeing Collective
As Michigan State University evolves into a health-promoting university, we know it cannot be accomplished by a single unit or department, but something we collectively create as a community. To develop a holistic, campus-wide approach, we've launched the Spartan Wellbeing Collective, an interdisciplinary group of students and employees who implement and support our University Health and Wellbeing plan, grounded and guided by the Okanagan Charter.
