          Instructional Technology Tool Updates

             1. RE-ENABLE HONORLOCK AFTER A COURSE COPY

After a course copy, please enable. In your D2L Course, go to Tools > Honorlock and enable and review settings for each Honorlock exam that was copied then click Enable. Screenshot of Honorlock interface.

    2. FAMILIARIZE YOUR STUDENTS WITH THE HONORLOCK PROCTORING PROCESS

Get your students ready for Honorlock this Fall!  Prepare your students for success by allowing them to experience the Honorlock proctoring process before taking a graded exam. You can accomplish this by either:

Setting up a practice exam.

Practice exams help by familiarizing students with the Honorlock platform and its requirements. This allows them to become more confident and comfortable during the online proctoring process.

Setting up a simulated - not proctored exam.

This allows you to create your exams in D2L or use a third-party tool like McGraw Hill.

HonorPrep Guided Tour

This guided tour familiarizes you with Honorlock in under 7 minutes, providing a walkthrough of the setup and authentication process required before students begin their quiz.

3. HONORLOCK REVAMPED RECOMMENDED SESSIONS EMAIL MANAGEMENT

The user who enables Honorlock for an exam will now automatically be added to the Recommended Email recipient list, facilitating smoother communication! Instructors can also add any email address to receive emails about a recommended session, however, please note that all email addresses added to this list must be authorized by APSU to receive updates for the assessment, and it is on the instructor to assume full responsibility for maintaining compliance with regulations for the institution. This disclaimer is also visible in the Honorlock settings.

Upcoming Honorlock Webinars. Mastering Honorlock. Honorlock is hosting a webinar series to guide you through best practices for successfully utilizing Honorlock to secure your exams. They will cover: Honorlock’s functionality within D2L, Customizing exam settings to support your integrity goals, Tips to reduce test anxiety. If you deliver third-party exams (using sites like ALEKS, MyMathLab, WebAssign, etc.), we recommend attending the third-party option regardless of the LMS in which you configure your exams. Click to Register.

Hotkey Detection has been added to Honorlock's array of features. This new feature is designed to improve exam integrity by preventing the capture of exam content through screenshots. Honorlock now monitors and flags over one hundred different hotkey combinations during exams with Hotkey Detection! Examples of the shortcuts that Hotkey Detection can identify: - PrtScr: Windows – Prt sc (F10) - Windows/Mac: Ctrl/Cmd + P - ChromeOS: Shift + Ctrl: 19 shortcuts

                       1. TURNITIN COLLUSION-CHECKING GUIDE

Are you concerned about collusion among your students? Discover how Turnitin can assist in identifying possible collusion in student-written papers with a collusion-checking guide available on the Turnitin page of our website.

Image of two students at a computer. What is collusion? Collaborating with others to produce work that is submitted as entirely your own or allowing others to copy your work for submission. Example: Working with a friend on an assignment and both submitting the same work as your own effort.

                          2. TURNITIN COURSE COPY

If you have done a course copy... Please check to see that your Turnitin assignment has been enabled. In your D2L Course, navigate to Assignments. If the course has been copied, you might encounter a notification prompting you to click the 'Re-enable' button, as illustrated below. Screenshot D2L Assignments interface.

                              3. TURNITIN AI DETECTION

Turnitin’s AI Writing capabilities have undergone significant changes:

- Turnitin has introduced AI paraphrasing detection to identify text that is likely paraphrased using a text spinner. Please note that this may discourage students from relying on such tools to avoid detection. The new AI report features a Submission Breakdown, which filters and separates text suspected of being AI-paraphrased, with each segment denoted by its own color.

Screenshot of a Turnitin AI score showing the submission breakdown with AI-generated text in teal and AI-paraphrased text in purple.

- The word count limit for submissions required to be processed by the AI Detection tool has increased from 15,000 to 30,000 words. Please keep this in mind when creating and providing instructions for your assignments.

- No AI Score will be displayed for submissions believed to have less than 20% of AI writing. Instead, an asterisk will be displayed unless the score is 0%.
