The new academic year is about to begin, and Warhawk Weekly will look a little bit different in 2026-27. Starting Aug. 31, we will alternate audiences for the newsletter. Students will receive Warhawk Weekly every two weeks beginning Aug. 31, and faculty and staff will get the newsletter in their inboxes every two weeks starting Sept. 8.

Roseman Excellence in Teaching Award, Kostka incorporates everyday food items — including Cheetos — into teaching chemistry inside her lab on the Rock County campus.

Kudos to Lilli Rick, an art major from Janesville, who spoke about her experience working with residents at Fairhaven Senior Services during a promotional video. Rick and her teammates on the UW-Whitewater women’s soccer team regularly visit Fairhaven during the academic year. Kudos to Choton Basu, professor of information technology and business education and information technology and supply chain management department chairperson, who will speak at EntreCon Midwest 2026 on Sept. 16 in Beloit. Basu’s presentation will focus on his work to support entrepreneurs in local communities through RenewTowns as advisor of UW-Whitewater’s national champion Enactus chapter. Basu was also a featured speaker with Robert Orozco, UWW executive in residence - AI, at The AI Leadership Summit on July 30 in Janesville.

Gardner Seawright, assistant professor of educational foundations, was interviewed in a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article about restorative practices at Milwaukee Public Schools. Shae Weir, an environmental science major from Janesville, was the recent subject of a Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium Student Spotlight. Weir is a first-generation college student, a scholarship recipient, and an undergraduate researcher with a passion for paleontology, the scientific study of Earth’s past life through fossils. Barrett Swanson, associate professor of literature, writing, and film, authored an article that was featured in The New York Times Magazine published on June 14.
