UW-Whitewater lauded for service to veterans and military students

As UW-Whitewater recognized its students, faculty and staff who have served or are serving in the military during Veterans Week, Military Times announced that it ranked the university as one of just four schools in Wisconsin in the top 150 of its 2024 Best for Vets ranking — the largest and most comprehensive ranking of the best schools for military service members and veterans in the nation.

Thanksgiving meal kits available Nov. 25-26

Dinner is served! Warhawk Pantry is preparing 25 Thanksgiving meal kits for Warhawks with a declared need — valid one per person. Grub on your favorite holiday dishes: sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, butter, gravy, rolls, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, fruit, and dessert! Warhawks must reserve by this Friday, Nov. 22, and pick up Nov. 25-26 between 2:30-6:30 p.m.

Offices closed to the public Nov. 29

A reminder that campus offices at the Whitewater and Rock County campuses will be closed to the public the day after Thanksgiving. Some areas may remain open to continue student and essential services.

A total of 21 students from UW-Whitewater will be part of the university's production of "Sylvia," which continues this Thursday, Nov. 21, at Hicklin Studio Theatre inside the Greenhill Center of the Arts.

Four Warhawks earn first place at state singing auditions

Four UW-Whitewater students placed first in their divisions at the Wisconsin National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) auditions held Nov. 2 in Milwaukee.

Business students power UW-Whitewater to victory at regional conference 

Nine UW-Whitewater students excelled in competition to drive the school to a first-place finish at the Pi Sigma Epsilon Fall Conference on Nov. 7-9 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

Kudos to Shannon Stuart, professor of special education, who co-authored an article on teaching students with autism that appeared in “Teaching Students With Disabilities: Best Practices for Student Success.”

Kudos to Ariana D'Arms, assistant professor of special education, who co-authored a text chapter on teaching middle school students to textually respond that will appear in “When text speaks: Learning to read & reading to learn.”

Kudos to Hairi Hairi, assistant professor of computer science, who co-authored “Finite-Time Convergence and Sample Complexity of Actor-Critic Multi-Objective Reinforcement Learning.” The work, which advances reinforcement learning with new insights into convergence and efficiency, was presented at the International Conference for Machine Learning (ICML 2024) in Vienna, Austria. Nicholas Gulig, associate professor of literature, writing, and film, was featured in a Q&A by the Colorado State University Center for Literary Publishing. The center published Gulig’s third collection of poetry, “The Other Altar,” which was named winner of the 2024 Colorado Prize for Poetry.

Volleyball to host NCAA Regional; cross country athletes qualify for NCAA Championship

The UW-Whitewater volleyball team, which won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship over the weekend, will host an NCAA Regional starting Thursday, Nov. 21, at Russell Arena inside the Williams Center. Read more about Volleyball »

The Warhawk men’s cross country team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, which is scheduled for this Saturday, Nov. 23, in Terre Haute, Indiana. Women’s cross country standout Ari De La Cerda, a marketing and management major from Pewaukee, qualified as an individual. Read more about Men's Cross Country »
