I’m pleased to officially welcome Pam Suzadail to the Provost’s Office in her new role as Assistant Provost for Online Learning and Professional Education. Pam has extensive experience in online learning and creating access for adult professional learners through online and hybrid programming. Previously, she was the founding associate dean and executive director for online programs and the Center for Online Learning at W&M’s Raymond A. Mason School of Business, where she led the launch and expansion of its online degree programs and certificates.

As Assistant Provost, Pam will assume responsibility for the initiatives previously managed by former Vice President for Strategy & Innovation Jeremy Martin in the areas of online learning and professional education. She will work closely with W&M leadership, the academic units and other university partners to enhance W&M’s presence and capacity, with a focus on identifying new opportunities and sources of revenue. This evolution of the role represents our ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and success in these areas, as we continue to see rising interest both on campus and throughout higher education. Please join me in congratulating Pam on this new chapter of her career.

And now, here are the top 5 things to know this week:
|
|
|
-
William & Mary is currently engaged in a comprehensive planning effort that will guide its long-term transformation. Your feedback and involvement are central to the success of the Campus Comprehensive Plan. Please take 15-20 minutes to complete the anonymous William & Mary Teaching and Learning Survey no later than October 1. Your responses will help shape the future of learning spaces at W&M. I also encourage you to attend one of the upcoming forums hosted by the Learning Spaces and Landscape Planning Committees. The next forums will be held this week on September 18 at 1 PM and 2 PM in Tidewater AB, Sadler Center. You can find the full list of future dates and topics online.
- The Charles Center for Academic Excellence is celebrating the summer research of over 200 students in its Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium, from 10:45 a.m.–2:45 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 20, in Swem Library. Drop by for inspiration, conversation and refreshments.
-
The Faculty Handbook committee has been hard at work on revisions to the handbook, which is a key faculty governance document. Changes to the handbook are first approved by the Personnel Policy Committee and then forwarded to the Faculty Assembly for its approval. Several items are up for approval at the Faculty Assembly meeting set for September 24. Per the process outlined by the Board and the President, you can review the proposed changes and bring up any discussion points with your faculty representative. The Faculty Assembly meetings are open for you to attend.
-
W&M Libraries has expanded its textbook ebook collection, adding 130 unlimited user ebooks that are listed as textbooks for Fall 2024. There are also many physical copies of textbooks in the reserve collection, which are available at Swem Library’s circulation desk for four-hour checkouts. Students can check the library catalog to search for textbooks. This effort is a direct result of student feedback shared in a recent survey in which students ranked textbook affordability as an issue of high importance.
- This week’s shoutout goes to the Diversity & Inclusion team members who have been hard at work on the 9th Annual Diversity & Inclusion Symposium taking place on September 20. This is a fantastic opportunity for community connection and learning. Please note that registration for the event closes today, September 16.
