The KBEI will be offering three new faculty grants for the academic year 2026-27:
1. Early Career Grant - $4500. Open to tenure-track faculty in their first three years. Purpose of the grant is to support a faculty member as they continue a line of research, teaching, or service, or to support the development of new areas of inquiry. Proposals should have an ethics component. One grant available.
2. Local Research Grant - $4500. Open to all faculty. To continue or to develop a line of research or service that is west Michigan-focused. One grant available.
3. AI Grant - $4000. Open to all faculty. To continue or develop a line of research or teaching related to AI and its ethical dimensions and challenges. One grant available.
Criteria for the grants are as follows: We invite creative and innovative proposals that show promise for successful completion. Successful grants will demonstrate why the project is necessary, what it will add to the field (or beyond), and how it is likely to succeed. For those grants requiring an ethics component, the proposal will make it clear how the proposed work or project will meet that requirement. The proposal will also explain how and why the grant money will be used. Grant proposals can be up to 1500 words in length, and add references beyond that. Up to two letters of recommendation may be included.
The grant may be used for materials, travel, field work, or other necessary expenditures relevant to your project. The money should be used within one year of its being awarded, but the project need not be completed in that time.
Proposals will be blinded and then judged by a panel independent of the KBEI, but please send your proposals, by June 26, 2026, to Michael DeWilde at dewildem@gvsu.edu
Award announcements will be made by August 25, 2026.
For questions and further information please contact Michael DeWilde at dewildem@gvsu.edu
In the first two years of making grants, the KBEI has awarded eight separate grants totaling $20,000.
