Celebrating Student Success2026 Library Research Awards
Now in their 20th year, the Library Research Awards recognize LMU students whose research makes expert and creative use of the services, resources, and collections of the William H. Hannon Library to produce a scholarly or creative work.
Our winners this year include both undergraduate and graduate students conducting research in courses ranging from biology and biochemistry, to history and yoga studies, and cover topics such as health communication, museum studies, medieval manuscript production, community responses to natural disaster, and more! The Social Roots of Asian American Partisanship
This book explains one of the most transformative but puzzling trends in contemporary American politics: strong support for the Democratic Party coupled with recent movement towards Republicans among Asian Americans. In contrast to existing theories rooted in familial influence and social exclusion, the book advances a new explanation that emphasizes the crucial role of peer groups, a theory of "social transmission." Prachi Gupta
They Called Us Exceptional: and Other Lies that Raised Us
The author articulates the dissonance, shame, and isolation of being upheld as an American success story while privately navigating traumas invisible to the outside world. Gupta weaves a deeply vulnerable personal narrative with history, postcolonial theory, and research on mental health to show how she slowly made sense of her reality and freed herself from the pervasive, reductive myth that had once defined her. Use Multiple Sources
No one source, no matter how strong, can tell the whole story. No single article can capture the full picture: it's a single contribution to a much larger conversation. That's why reading multiple sources is so important. By engaging with more than one scholarly voice, you move from seeing research as a process of gathering isolated facts to understanding it as participating in an ongoing conversation.
