Coming soon: Artist Cody Hudson will install a mural at the Niles Township Food Pantry, 8341 Lockwood Ave. The artist worked with food pantry staff and spent time on site to design a mural inspired by the work of the pantry, the fresh food provided to clients, and the gardens surrounding the Township building.

🚑 Skokie Five-Year-Old Honored for Life-saving Actions
|
Heroes come in all shapes, sizes and ages! Last week, the Skokie Police Department honored five-year-old Zoey Reddick at its annual awards ceremony.
Quick actions: In May, Zoey called 9-1-1 when her mother, Jessica, suddenly fainted. Zoey remained calm and answered all of the Skokie 9-1-1 operator's questions until Skokie Fire paramedics arrived, helping save her mother’s life.
Deep breaths: Zoey shared her secrets to staying calm with ABC 7 Chicago. Way to go, Zoey!

🚒 Skokie Fire Enhances EMS Services
|
Recent vehicle and service enhancements allow the Skokie Fire Department to provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) care to the community even more promptly.
What’s improved: Effective October 1, three newly equipped, non-ambulance Skokie Fire apparatus – one based at each fire station – can offer ALS care when responding to emergency service calls. Staffed by licensed paramedics, the upgraded vehicles have the same equipment and are capable of offering the same advanced care as an ambulance, including cardiac defibrillation, airway management, and medication administration.
Why it’s important: This service improvement allows Skokie Fire to provide a greater level of EMS care even more promptly, especially during times with multiple calls for service.

🏘️ Spotlight: Village Boards and Commissions
|
New Native Plantings at Main and Lincoln
|
Two green thumbs up to the Village’s Beautification and Improvement Commission and Skokie Public Works for installing native plantings this weekend at Main Street and Lincoln Avenue!
Landscape leaders: The Commission completed the work as part of its yearly planting project. Plants include False Indigo, Allium, Purple Prairie Clover, and Gray’s Sedge.
Why it’s important: Replacing turf with native plantings reduces maintenance cycles, benefits pollinators, and increases stormwater absorption. It’s one of the strategies of the Village’s Environmental Sustainability Plan.

Dirty Jobs: Meet the RX130 Sewer Televising Robot
|
Beneath the street, a small but mighty machine moves through Skokie’s sewer system to keep it running smoothly.
Introducing the RX130: Skokie Public Works deploys this reliable robot to inspect miles of sewer main every year, helping the department identify and repair potential leaks, blockages and other issues before they occur.
See it in action: The Skokie Telecommunications and Technology (STAT) Commission created a short video highlighting how the Village uses technology like the RX130 to enhance services.
