Five special elections between now and March 10!

Four state legislative special elections and one special election for the U.S. House of Representatives have been scheduled between now and March 10.  More information on the Congressional race is forthcoming.

SENATE DISTRICT 18
Crawford, Monroe, Peach, Upson, and portions of Bibb and Houston counties

In state Senate District 18, formerly held by Sen. John Kennedy, there is a runoff special election tomorrow.  Kennedy is running for lieutenant governor and resigned his seat.  The primary special election's two top candidates are Democrat Lemario Brown and Republican Steven McNeel.  Brown was the leading vote getter in the January 20 primary.
The District has been held by Republicans for at least the past 22 years.

GAE has endorsed Brown who is a farmer and small-business owner.  He previously served six years on the Fort Valley City Council, including as Mayor Pro Tem.  For more on Brown, visit his web site at: https://www.lemarioforgeorgia.com/about.

SENATE DISTRICT 53
Chattooga, Dade, Walker, and portions of Catoosa and Floyd counties

State Sen. Colton Moore, R-Trenton, resigned his seat to run for the 14th Congressional District seat vacated by former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in early January.  Three Republicans and one Democrats have qualified for this Senate seat.

An endorsement by GAE, based on candidate questionnaires and interviews with local affiliates, may be forthcoming.  The election is March 10.  Advance in-person absentee voting will began today.

The Catoosa Education Association (CEA) is planning a candidate forum for this state Senate race.  For more information, contact caitlin.martin@gae.org
HOUSE DISTRICT 94
DeKalb and Gwinnett counties

A special election in House District 94 has been scheduled for March 10.  The seat was previously held by Rep. Karen Bennett who resigned her seat after she was indicated on charges of COVID unemployment benefit fraud.  Four Democrats have qualified for the seat.  Early, in-person voting begins Monday.  The candidates are Audrey Lux, Ikenna Ugwumadu, Kelly Kautz, and Venola Mason.  GAE finds both Audrey Lux and Venola Mason as acceptable.  A special election runoff would be April 7 if no candidate receives a majority of the vote.  Early, in-person voting begins Tuesday.

HOUSE DISTRICT 130

Richmond County

GAE has endorsed Sha'Qunta Calles in this special election, which will held on March 10.  Early voting begins Monday.  Six candidates have qualified, four Democrats and two Republicans.  If no candidate wins a majority of the vote, a special election runoff would be held on April 7.
