Top Five Things to Know

From the Office of Provost Peggy Agouris

OFFICE OF THE PROVOST
WEEKLY MESSAGE ARCHIVE

Dear colleagues,

Welcome to a new academic year. I hope the summer offered you moments of rest, renewal, and progress, and that the semester begins with energy for the work and discoveries ahead. Each fall brings its own momentum, and I look forward to seeing where this one takes us.

As in previous years, at the beginning of each week, I will continue to write with important updates and reminders. Today’s message focuses on the week ahead, but as we move through the semester, please feel free to reach out with news or information that you think should be shared with the faculty.

I am excited for what we will accomplish together this year. Thank you, as always, for the care and creativity you bring to our students and to one another. Go Tribe!

Here are the top “5 Things to Know” this week:

  1. This year’s Opening Convocation will be held in the Wren Yard on Wednesday, August 27, at 7:15 p.m. I encourage you to take part in this important milestone in our students’ academic journey. Please RSVP if you have not already done so.

  2. Our annual university-wide Fall Faculty Meeting will be held on Friday, August 29, at 3:30 p.m. in Tucker Hall, Room 127A. Please RSVP for the reception today to ensure a proper headcount.

  3. You can continue to find updates and answers to frequently asked questions at the university’s federal guidelines resource hub, including important law enforcement procedures, information on fielding media inquiries, W&M’s current hiring process, and more.

  4. Please refer to last week’s message regarding the observance of religious holidays. I ask that you consider major cultural holidays when making appropriate plans. The university’s Guidelines for Religious Accommodations are posted on the Provost’s webpage for review and further information.

  5. The first shoutout of the semester goes to everyone involved in successfully welcoming nearly 1,900 new undergraduates to campus over the past week. Thank you for showing our new students and their families the power of community here at W&M!
