UW-Whitewater AMA retains International Chapter of the Year |
For the 13th consecutive year and the 20th time overall, UW-Whitewater’s American Marketing Association chapter retained its status as International Chapter of the Year. Nine students and four faculty members turned in award-winning performances at the 2024 AMA International Collegiate Conference on April 11-13 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

UW-Whitewater will celebrate the achievements of its graduates on Saturday, May 11, and Tuesday, May 14, as proud families and friends gather for the 2024 spring commencement ceremonies on the Whitewater and Rock County campuses.

| On April 24, UW-Whitewater hosted its annual Coffee at the Capitol event at the Wisconsin State Capitol. Faculty, staff, and students connected with alumni and friends in the highest echelons of state government.

Dylan Riley arrived at UW-Whitewater as an undergraduate three years ago with college-level coursework already under his belt. His demonstrated propensity for hard work helped him to graduate with a BBA in finance this spring, only to return this fall to pursue an MBA in management.

Women’s tennis punches ticket to NCAA Tournament

The UW-Whitewater women’s tennis team won the 2024 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team Tournament on Saturday, April 27, to claim its 16th straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Future leaders emerge from College of Business and Economics
|
UW-Whitewater’s impressive pipeline into the business world continues with a placement rate of 99 percent within six months of graduation. These two Warhawks, including one recent graduate and a current student set to graduate this May, are set to build on their campus legacies.

Kudos to Chancellor Corey A. King, who received the 2024 WAEOPP TRIO Achievers Award. The Wisconsin Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel champions TRIO and educational opportunity programs at public and private, two-year and four-year colleges and universities, and educational agencies across Wisconsin. Kudos to the HawkCard office and University Marketing and Communications, who were recognized as UW-Whitewater won the award for Best Card Design from the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU). Kim Krebs, HawkCard administrative assistant, accepted the award on behalf of the university at the NACCU Annual Conference on April 14-17 in Covington, Kentucky. Read more »
Kudos to Alaina Jacobs, an entrepreneurship major from Sun Prairie, Brooke Bauer, a finance major from New Berlin, and Clare O’Donnell, an environmental science major from Naperville, Illinois, whose research, “Economic Impacts of Wisconsin Fishing Supported by The Freshwater Resources of Lake Michigan and Bay of Green Bay,” was the focus of a story published by the Freshwater Collaborative of Wisconsin. Kudos to biology majors Aimee Broaddrick of New Berlin, Miles Hagen of New Lenox, Illinois, William Morgan of Naperville, Illinois, and Jacob Schumacher of Milton, who presented their research at the TriBeta District Convention on April 20 in Whitewater. Broaddrick and Schumacher earned first and third place, respectively, in the poster competition, and Morgan and Hagen claimed second and third place, respectively, in oral presentations.
Kudos to Courtney Wilt, assistant professor of special education and a Wisconsin Teaching Fellow, who presented a poster, “Race Talk in Teacher Preparation: Understanding the Discourse through Teaching and Learning,” at the Spring 2024 OPID Conference: The Joys of Teaching & Learning on April 18 in Madison. Kudos to Anna Lindell, associate professor of psychology, who presented a flash talk at the Society for Research on Adolescence Annual Meeting on April 20 in Chicago. Kudos to Brian Leeper, senior lecturer of music, who has been selected to a two-year term as governor of the north central region for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) beginning April 1. He will represent the districts of Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Manitoba and Saskatchewan on the national NATS board at their meeting this summer in Knoxville, Tennessee.

#6 UW-Whitewater baseball team will host UW-Stevens Point this Friday and Saturday, May 3-4, at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium. The team will recognize its alumni in attendance and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the program’s 2014 NCAA Division III national championship.

| MAGD Expo
This in-person expo 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, located in the Hamilton Room at the University Center, is an annual juried event that features interactive entertainment, 3D, 2D, aural, virtual, and animated creative work. Experience, play, and view our students’ projects from this academic year and be a part of choosing our people’s choice award. The keynote speaker for the event is Xoe Allred, an independent game designer based in Los Angeles. This expo is free and open to the public.

Check out the work of senior art students graduating with a fine arts degree this Monday-Thursday, April 29-May 2, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the Crossman Gallery in the Greenhill Center of the Arts. Sinclaire Casarotto, an art major from Caledonia, Illinois, is the featured artist. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Wichser named head men’s basketball coach
|
Jarod Wichser has been named head men’s basketball coach and lecturer of kinesiology after serving in an interim role during the 2023-24 season. Wichser, who earned a BSE in elementary/middle education and an MSE in higher education leadership from UW-Whitewater, joined the Warhawk staff as an assistant coach in 2017. A press conference to formally announce Wichser’s hiring is scheduled for Monday, April 29, at 3:45 p.m. in Williams Center room 183BC.
