Lady Eagles Record Breaking Season

Join me in congratulating our Lady Eagles on a season well done! Although the Lady Eagles fell to Pittsburgh during the first round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament, they had a record-breaking season.  They accomplished so much this season and in Coppin State’s volleyball history. 
  • First NCAA Tournament appearance in school history  
  • 13-1 in conference play (27-5 overall) for a new CSU record for most wins in a season. 
  • 2023 MEAC Champions: TaKenya Stafford won Outstanding Performer and All-Tournament Team. Ammaarah Williams and Geraldyn Palacios also made All-Tournament Team. 
  • Tim Walsh earned MEAC Coach of the Year.
  • Andrea Tsvetanova earned MEAC Setter of the Year, and the nation NCAA Volleyball in aces per set (.65) for the second season in a row.
  • Ashley Roman earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Year.
  • TaKenya Stafford, Geralyn Palacios, Ashley Roman and Andrea Tsvetanova made the first team all-conference. 
  • Laila Ibrahim made the second team all-conference and set a single season record with 111 blocks.

Coppin State Students Prepare for the Workforce at HBCU Career Development Marketplace Conference 

Coppin State Students during the 2023 HBCU Career Development Marketplace Conference. 
Five Honors Program students joined four outstanding students from the general student body to represent Coppin State University at this year’s HBCU Career Development Marketplace. The 3-day conference took place November 12-15 at the Inner Harbor Hyatt Regency and offered scholars from HBCUs throughout the country a robust schedule of leadership and career development workshops. 

Industry leaders from corporations, private organizations, and government agencies covered topics ranging from the transition from campus to the workforce, business etiquette, and workplace diversity. The conference culminated with an opportunity for students to speak with employers from a variety of fields to learn about internship and entry-level positions and study abroad fellowships.

Students in attendance were Amayah Bell (Junior), Nykera Hall (Sophomore), Dainia Higgins (Senior), Logan Ajah (Sophomore), Christian Pareja (Sophomore), Zania Perry (Junior), Corey Primus (Junior), Jaime Tudor (Senior), and Andrea Wright-Brown (Sophomore). Students were accompanied by DeChelle Forbes, Director of the Honors Program, and Tania Williams, Employer Relations Coordinator with Career and Professional Services.  

The annual HBCU Career Development Marketplace is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a 3.2 or better grade point average.

The African American History Committee is hosting “Minding My Business is to Mind My Mind” – a mental health webinar featuring Dr. Quevarra Moten on Tuesday, December 5 at 1 p.m.  Learn strategies for coping with challenges in higher education, prioritizing mental health, and fostering resilience.
