The LIVE Learning Innovation Series Returns
|

Join us Wed Sep 2 for the first LIVE Learning Innovation Seminar of the semester. LIVE researcher Dr. Marcus Watson will introduce the community to the Meta Virtual Reality CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment). The CAVE is a room-sized immersive environment that projects 3D images onto its walls and floor, paired with state-of-the-art surround sound.

Marcus will demonstrate the CAVE, discuss its use in multisensory environment research, and open a discussion on how it can support learning technology research. Unlike standard personal VR headsets, the CAVE supports headset-free interaction and high-fidelity spatial audio for individuals and groups. These capabilities create exciting opportunities to design and study immersive, multisensory learning experiences.

The VR CAVE is a focus area for this year’s Ignite Tech Grant (see below). Join us Wednesday to learn more about the Meta VR CAVE and how it can support future research projects and your ideas. Pizza and drinks provided.

LIVE Ignite Tech Development Grants
|
|
|
|
|
LIVE Ignite Tech Development Grants provide concentrated support from LIVE’s research engineer to bring innovative learning technology ideas to life or help existing tools take bold new steps forward. These grants are designed to support projects that demonstrate clear conceptual value, pragmatic goals, anticipated impact, and feasibility.
|
|
|
|
A focus area for the 2026 application cycle is the Vanderbilt's Meta Virtual Reality CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment).
Prospective applicants can learn more at two upcoming LIVE Learning seminars:
September 2: An introduction to the Meta Virtual Reality CAVE and its potential applications.
September 9: A presentation featuring the 2026 awardees and an overview of their proposed projects.
Vanderbilt faculty, research scientists, postdocs, and graduate or undergraduate students from any college are eligible to apply.
