Giving Thanks for Our Community |
Colleagues –
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday and the home stretch of the semester, I want to express my appreciation for your dedication and resilience. You have met each challenge with flexibility, adaptability, and grace. I am grateful to come to work each day to a university full of talented faculty and staff who are fully investing in student success and its transformational impact.
Artificial intelligence is also having a transformational impact – on just about everything! It has certainly affected our work and given us pause to evaluate its role in teaching, learning, and ultimately, student success. To help navigate these waters, we have invited C. Edward Watson and José Antonio Bowen, coauthors of the book Teaching with AI to join us on campus November 19 and 20 to explore this evolving topic. I hope you will join this important conversation, either in person or via Teams. Please find more information below.
And of course, Happy Homecoming! I hope you are having a wonderful week enjoying our campus activities, and I look forward to seeing you out and about this weekend. Thank you to Student Affairs and all our campus teams who work year-round to create this opportunity for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and our community friends to remember why there’s no place like home(coming).
With Maverick Pride -
Tamara L. Brown, Ph.D.
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

Brain Health Research Expansion |
UTA is expanding its research on brain health, focusing on how people navigate their surroundings and remember information.
Steven Weisberg, who joined UT Arlington as an assistant professor of psychology in September, is a cognitive neuroscientist with extensive experience in this field.
"It’s exciting to be at a university that’s engaging deeply with brain health research,” he said. “With UTA’s investment in imaging and neuroscience, we can ask bigger questions about how the brain changes with age and how we might help people stay sharper, longer."

| Spring 2026 Graduation Date Change |
|
|
Our partners at Globe Life Field have informed us that our intended date for the spring 2026 commencement ceremonies is no longer available due to baseball games scheduled for the Texas Rangers. The Office of the Provost and Student Affairs have consulted with leaders across campus to consider all possible alternatives and determined that Sunday, May 3, 2026, is the best option for UTA to host commencement.
Please reach out to Dr. David Eberhardt (david.eberhardt@uta.edu) with any questions about this change and any assistance you may need. Commencement Coordinators for each college are being notified, and our team will work with them to ensure additional information is shared in the weeks and months ahead.
