How do you like our new logo? This was one of the tasks we were giving ourselves over the Summer – well, we had nothing else to do 😊 - as we (and if I say “we”, I must say that Stephanie was the driving force) wanted something new for the 55th Anniversary, but we wanted to keep it for a longer period of time. We worked with a well-known local artist, Jacques Schneider, who designed this logo especially for us allowing us to use it at our discretion. Jacques was able to marry Academia with Luxembourg, the US and Miami through the Red Lion, which is his own property with all the rights needed to use it. I cannot thank enough Ellie Witter from Advancement for all the help she brought in to get this piece of Art approved by Miami Communication as well. Thank you, Ellie!
Starting a new year often means that you have to say “goodbye” or “see you soon” to a number of people. Dr Marisol Del Teso and Dr Matthew Gordon have returned to the US to teach on campus again, whereas Marina Madsen, our Student Activities Coordinator, is developing her professional career. Thank you all for a great experience at MUDEC! Our Housing Coordinator, Meliha Durakovic, is on maternity/parental leave for about a year, so all the best to you, Meliha and see you soon!
To allow a smooth transition, we have new Faculty and have the pleasure to welcome Dr José Dominguez-Burdalo and Dr Mark Walsh. The students will be advised by our new Student Activities Coordinator, Erin Dunning, and Housing will be managed by Natasha Liati-Jones. Welcome to all!
Housing is THE key word this Fall, as not only did we create a new logo, plan the new semester and prepare the anniversary events: No! we also finished our new Studios at Gravity. On August 23rd, the first 50 students will move in the brand-new studios on the second and sixth floor of the co-living building that belongs to the complex between Auchan and the EIDE (International School). This opens a completely new perspective to Miami’s study abroad offering. Students will live in individual studios including a bathroom, but even though they will have their own fridge, they will share a kitchen space with 24 other students and have a common space lounge on the ground floor which they will share with all the inhabitants of a building made of 6 floors and 25 studios on each floor which means that beside 50 Miami students, there are 100 additional people living in and sharing the space. It will be a very international environment made of students from various institutions (University of Luxembourg, LUNEX, MUDEC …), interns working at all possible businesses in Luxembourg for a shorter or longer period of time. But in the complex, students will also find shops, crèches, offices and a neighbouring apartment building with another 100 relatively small apartments for elder people, singles coming from all over the world. Diversity at its very best!
For the first time ever, MUDEC will work with RAs (Residence Assistants), another interesting experience for us here, to make sure students respect the rules and regulation in application at Gravity.
With greatest pleasure, I invite you to join us in October and to register – if you haven’t done so – for an exciting week in Luxembourg. To register, email Ellie Witter and she will take care of the rest. We will have an Open House at the Château and at Gravity on October 10th and inaugurate, hopefully in his presence, the new Emile Haag Hall. If you are around in September, you may want to join us on the 7th to officially inaugurate our new Housing Facility, downstairs in the Common Lounge of Gravity.
And do not forget: Move-in Miami Day allows you all to participate in making the Fairy Tale Castle of Differdange even more beautiful – the Château de Differdange Fund is up and running!
So see you in September, in October … or any time soon, because: What’s another Year?
