Dear friends,
Returning to campus has been especially exciting this year for the IFL team. Over the last two years, we have heard consistent feedback that vocational formation for faculty, staff, and graduate students is crucially different at each inflection point of an academic career.
Given this feedback, we have been working to intentionally create different opportunities for staff, faculty, and graduate students at all phases of their journey. Along with our normal programming, we are looking forward to launching several new initiatives! First, we will be offering a Missio just for academic staff just for academic staff—exploring the vocation of staff at a Christian academic institution. Second, in January, we will launch a Missio cohort for junior faculty (first- to third-year faculty). Third, we launched our new Professio mentorship program—a pilot program where more senior faculty will provide interdisciplinary vocational mentorship to faculty who have recently received tenure and promotion. This is funded by a generous grant from the Lilly Network of Church-Related Colleges & Universities.
We are also grateful for a second Lilly Network grant, which enables us to welcome graduate school administrators from several Lilly Network Christian schools to campus for a mini symposium in September to explore vocational formation for graduate students.
We are excited to support faculty, staff and graduate students in these different ways and look forward to exploring even more possibilities for this type of targeted formation in the year to come!

The opportunity to lead Faith and Arts chapels for our Baylor University undergrads has become a highlight of my week every semester. Weekly engagement in conversation with students about how to shape spiritual practices has grounded me as I pursue a seminary education and tend to my pastoral work. It has been a delight to cultivate conversation with these young creatives and accompany them as we ask deep questions about how faith intertwines with art. It reminds me of my "why" and has sharpened my own sense of purpose as an artist and person called to ministry in this academic setting. Sharing worship and making space for these students is an act of care and hospitality that reflects the deeper values of our institution well, and it is a joy and privilege to participate in it! If you are part of the Baylor faculty or staff, I wholeheartedly recommend taking a chance to guide a chapel that lights you up. It has been beautiful to see growth, connection, and sparks of community fly among these young scholars.

IFL and Truett's Anglican Episcopal House welcome you to join a Q&A on September 30th with Douglas Kaine McKelvey, author of the Every Moment Holy series, following our night of worship. This session will be moderated by Tish Harrison Warren, author and former NYT columnist, who currently serves as the C.S. The Faith and Science Colloquium |
The Faith and Science Colloquium is Baylor’s venue for discussing the intersection of science and religion. The weekly meetings include sharing current research or teaching interests, and it is an interdisciplinary group that seeks enriching conversation with colleagues across campus.
The meetings occur most Fridays during the semester from 12 to 1 pm at the Baylor Science Building.

Christian Scholars Fellowship |
The Christian Scholars Fellowship is back this Fall!
This interdisciplinary group, open to Baylor graduate students and young faculty in all programs and subject areas, meets biweekly over lunch. The aim is to foster discussion about Christian scholarship and help new academics think through the implications of teaching and researching as Christians.
