Victoria Levi ’27 is using both her English Literature major and Environmental Studies minor skills this summer while working on legislation about dam-removal at American Rivers, a non-profit environmental organization that works to protect and restore rivers.

Levi is serving as a river conservation summer intern with the organization, researching and learning about dam-removal. Her days can vary depending on what her team needs, which means she is learning about a lot of different parts of the organization and what is required for water protection. Her projects have varied from making a State Dam Law Removal Library to researching information about key abandoned dams or writing a blog. Luckily for her, her studies at CC have prepared her extremely well for this internship.

As almost 200 military service members were on campus participating in the 2025 Department of Defense Warrior Games last month, four CC students and recent alumni worked the games as interns. Recent graduates Delaney Rach ’25 and Gracie Huebner ’25 served as a Volunteer Coordination Intern and a Communications Intern, respectively, while Cole Amaya ’26 worked as a Sports Results Intern and Abigail Watson ’28 as a Medal Ceremonies Intern.

“Interning at the Warrior Games, an event that celebrates resilience, recovery, and the unifying power of sports, was an incredible experience,” Amaya says. “I was particularly drawn to this internship because it aligns with my passion for high-level athletics and a mission-driven environment. I supported service members and veterans as they showcased their skills and perseverance through competition. My Mathematical Economics major, with a focus in Computer Science, gave me the analytical skills to manage and ensure accurate results, but what really made this experience meaningful were the athletes themselves.”

Sherlock(s): Holmes and Watson and Us Through the Ages

Comic book cover of Sherlock Holmes showing Holmes crouched with pipe in hand, examining a box marked “Hamilton Necklace,” while a detective and police officer stand behind him under a night sky.

Come to the FAC on Friday, Aug. 29, at 5:30 p.m. for a lively Libation Lecture that journeys from Victorian opium dens to modern crime scenes, exploring how Sherlock Holmes has captivated readers as everyone’s favorite high-functioning sociopath longer than your great-great-grandmother has been gone. Expect more plot twists than a Conan Doyle story, more conundrums than even a Watson might wish for, and more libations than a Victorian medicine cabinet.

Lecturer: Dr. Steven Hayward, Professor of English & Director of Journalism Institute

Themed Cocktail: Elementary, My Dear
