What Happened at the 2023 World Service Conference?

The 63rd World Service Conference (WSC) took place in Virginia Beach, Virginia April 20‑23, 2023. Each year, following the WSC, the World Service Office compiles Highlights of the World Service Conference, which provides brief reports of several Conference sessions. Our Newest Daily Reader Is Here!

A Little Time for Myself (B‑34) represents the many voices of Al‑Anon members today, just as the daily readers before it—including One Day at a Time in Al‑Anon (B‑6) and Courage to Change (B‑16)—reflected the times in which they were written. Available now from your local Literature Distribution Center or the Al‑Anon Online Bookstore. Remember—when you buy from your local Literature Distribution Center, you support local services.

The World Service Office’s Trilingual Annual Report Is Available

How is the World Service Office (WSO) sharing Al‑Anon’s message of help and hope? Read all about it in the 2022 World Service Office Annual Report, published simultaneously in English, French, and Spanish. The Annual Report provides insights into the work completed on behalf of the fellowship by the Board of Trustees, Executive Committee, At‑Large committees, and WSO Staff throughout the year.

When It’s Five O’Clock All Day Long…

You’re about to leave for your summer vacation, and you have a mix of emotions. There’s excitement for the time away but also worry about the possibility of drinking “hour” lasting all day long.
One way to ease this anxiety is to make a plan before you travel. Look up meetings ahead of time and block off those hours on your calendar so that you can attend. Search by zip code to find meetings close to your hotel, or plan to take in a meeting beachside (or wherever you are) using the Al‑Anon Family Groups Mobile App.

Al‑Anon in National Media

Be on the lookout for the “Dear Abby” newspaper column on July 26, which recommends Al‑Anon.
Many newspapers have either gone entirely digital or include some bonus content available online only. Consider searching their website for the article and, if possible, leave a comment expressing your gratitude for the recommendation. Please protect your anonymity at the level of the internet by not revealing your membership in the program.
Readers of national media items could contact the World Service Office (WSO) for local meeting information. It is always important for groups to provide WSO and all service arm websites with up‑to‑date meeting information, including temporary electronic meeting information, so everyone can help newcomers find a meeting.
Thank you for offering help and hope to families and friends of alcoholics.
