Making Vegetable Bags Choose any date: March 20, 21, 27, 28 April 3, 4 9:15 – 10:00 a.m. Westminster Café
Gleaning is the act of collecting leftover crops in the field after harvest. During harvest, there is food that is left or missed often because it does not meet store standards for uniformity. The vegetables aren’t “pretty” enough. Gleaning is used to provide fresh foods to those in need. The vegetables are perfectly fine for consumption and are used by local food banks.
As part of our Hands On Mission Lenten experience, please join us in the Café to make bags for these vegetables.
This is a super easy service project! If you can cut and tie a knot, we need you! We will be preparing bunches of mesh bags for folks who will glean various fields in the area. Come one day or a couple of days!
Please let Beth Drake know if you can participate.

Put those bags to use...
Join us Saturday, April 5th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. as we distribute 40,000 pounds (or 20 tons) of sweet potatoes to our hungry neighbors in Middle Tennessee. Partnering with the Society of St. Andrew, we keep this food from going to waste and share it instead with people in need. Plan to work outdoors: dress for the weather and bring water bottles and sunscreen! We’ll meet in the Mayfair Parking Lot.

Books to Read
Our faith calls us to be caretakers of our planet, but what that means, what scripture says, and how we might put our faith into action is not often clear.
The Earth Care Task Force has 2 books to suggest in aiding those who want to learn more. The first is Inhabiting Eden by Dr. Patricia Tull, Professor Emeritus at Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. Dr. Tull links scripture supporting our response to modern ecological challenges and is a wonderful guide to personal reflection on environmental concerns.
The second is Saving Us by Katharine Hayhoe, Professor of Climate Science at Texas Tech University and a devout Christian. Although urging us to talk more about our changing climate is Dr. Hayhoe’s primary suggestion on how we individually can help, she suggests many actions that we can do with others both within and outside faith communities.
The Earth Care Task will resume meeting soon. Contact Curtis Baysinger at cbaysinger2@gmail.com if you want to jump on board with us.
