With a Little Help from My Friends

The KCMS Delegate Council

at WSMA House of Delegates

Hello KCMS Members,
This past weekend, your KCMS Delegate Council participated in the Washington State Medical Association’s (WSMA) House of Delegates (HOD)—the WSMA’s policy-making body and the forum where physicians from across the state come together to debate, amend, and vote on resolutions that shape the future of medicine in Washington.

We are happy to share that KCMS delegates had tremendous success this year. Many of the resolutions authored by our members were adopted—several with amendments that strengthen their impact. These policies will now guide WSMA’s advocacy, legislative priorities, and organizational initiatives in the coming year.

Highlights include:
  • Adoption of important new policies on patient access, physician oversight of artificial intelligence, medical misinformation, and private equity in medicine.
  • Passage of reforms to protect primary care, ensure equitable access regardless of immigration status, and advance HIV prevention and treatment.
  • Success in establishing a new LGBTQ+ section within WSMA, expanding the representation and engagement of residents.
  • Strong advocacy on health equity funding through a state wealth tax, and protections against inappropriate Medicaid and insurance practices.
While not every resolution was adopted, KCMS delegates made a meaningful impact across a wide range of issues. Our voice was heard clearly, and the efforts of our members will benefit both physicians and patients statewide.

I've included the full results of the HOD for you below. A special thank you to our delegates for their time, energy, and participation in this year’s meeting. Your engagement ensures KCMS continues to be a powerful advocate for the profession and the communities we serve.

Warm regards,
