Background on the Letter from the Student Body:
The Student Government Association (SGA) recently launched a new way to express student support called the Letter from the Student Body (LSB)—a platform for students to formally raise collective concerns or ideas to university stakeholders. Any undergraduate student may propose a LSB to the SGA. Once submitted, a two-week voting period is opened. During this time, at least 10% of the undergraduate student body must vote on the letter. If at least two-thirds of those votes are in favor, the letter is officially delivered to the designated recipient by the SGA.

The SGA's role is purely facilitative; it does not create, edit, endorse, or oppose the content of the LSB.

Stevens Divest from War Initiative LSB:
The SGA recently announced the first official LSB: Stevens Divest from War Initiative: A Letter from the Student Body. The results of the letter are as follows:

Total Undergraduate Student Body: 4,236 students
Required Participation Threshold: 423 students (10% of 4,236 students)

Vote Breakdown:

  • Total Valid Votes Submitted: 733 students (17% of 4,236 students)
  • Votes In Favor: 599 students (82% of 733 students)
  • Votes Against: 120 students (16% of 733 students)
  • Votes Abstaining: 14 students (2% of 733 students)

As the voting thresholds were met and the letter was passed in accordance with the established process, the Stevens Divest from War Initiative: A Letter from the Student Body has been formally submitted to the recipients for consideration and review.

If you have any questions about the process or results, please reach out to the SGA President Alexander Stanczak (astancza@stevens.edu).
