Include the ELLWC in Your Spring Course
The start of the semester is the perfect time to set international students up for success in your course. Please strongly encourage them to get supplemental instruction at the English Language Learner Writing Center (ELLWC). Students can choose between on-campus appointments (in-person interaction with consultants) and written online appointments (a student’s paper is returned with comments and no in-person interaction).
Reach out to the Coordinator of the ELLWC, Larysa Bobrova, to explore how the ELLWC can help your students maximize their success in your course.

News from the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI)
| As part of Miami’s efforts to promote and sustain an inclusive community, the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion is excited to announce two important initiatives:
1. Campus Climate Survey: Miami University will conduct its Campus Climate Survey 2023 from Jan. 25-March 1 to engage currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff in sharing their experiences on all campuses. Students, faculty, and staff will receive the emailed survey on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
To celebrate the survey, International Student and Scholar Services will host a Campus Climate Survey Awareness Party on Thursday, February 9 from 12:30- 2 p.m. in the International Student Center, 017 MacMillian Hall. There will be food, survey information, and the opportunity to take the survey on-site.
2. Canvas NameCoach: Information Technology Services and the Office for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion have partnered to provide access to NameCoach. This tool allows students, faculty and staff to record the correct pronunciation of their names and include that pronunciation on their Canvas profile and email signatures.
NameCoach is integrated with Canvas, so all instructors can know the pronunciation of students’ names. Names are central aspects of our identities, and correctly pronouncing each name contributes to inclusion and belonging.
