The workshops are 3 x 2 hour lunchtime online events that cover different topics to help inspire, encourage and prepare everyday people to make their volunteering time count. The workshops would be especially useful to anyone wanting to make a difference in their communities and how to best use the time they have to contribute.

First Nations Clean Energy Symposium
When: Wednesday 8 to Thursday 9 May 2024
Where: Tarntanya (Adelaide, South Australia)

The symposium will bring together Traditional Owners, communities and businesses participating in the clean energy industry, government policy makers, industry trail-blazers, and First Nations leaders.

It is an opportunity to share learnings, new ideas and strategies for how we can work together to partner in clean energy solutions in our homes and communities and drive massive change in States and Territories, including through the First Nations Clean Energy Strategy.

Grants

Strengthening Rural Communities - Prepare & Recover
Closes: Wednesday 5 June 2024

This program supports communities in remote, rural and regional communities across Australia to implement initiatives that prevent and prepare for future climate related impacts, or recover from existing disasters in the medium to long-term timeframe, generally one to ten years after the disaster.

Grants up to $25,000 are available.

Leadership Development Grants

Closes: Monday 13 May 2024

The Our Catchments, Our Communities (OCOC) Leadership Development Grants support aspiring future leaders in integrated catchment management in Victoria. The categories are:

Aboriginal leadership
Women in leadership
Innovation

Each year, grants of up to $10,000 are awarded per grant category to early to mid-career professionals in the natural resource management (NRM) sector.

Generating electricity from carbon dioxide

'Researchers at the University of Queensland have built an electrical generator that consumes carbon dioxide, potentially opening the door to a new industrial-scale carbon capture method.

The carbon-negative "nano-generator" is the work of Zhuyuan Wang and Xiwang Zhang from UQ's Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation.' (ABC 2024).
