Dr. Ruha Benjamin Opens the Generative Futures Series

Explore the intersections of AI, language, imagination, and social change with Dr. Ruha Benjamin on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. in Celeste Theatre.

Benjamin, a professor at Princeton University and Founding Director of the IDA B. WELLS Just Data Lab, will deliver the inaugural lecture in CC’s Generative Futures series, centered on Critical Language Inquiry in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. She is the author of Imagination: A Manifesto, Viral Justice: How We Grow the World We Want, and Race After Technology: Abolitionist Tools for the New Jim Code.

A book signing will follow the lecture, with books available for purchase. The event is free and open to the CC community and the public.

The Generative Futures series is sponsored by the Mellon Humanities for All Times grant.

 

Homecoming Weekend Returns Oct. 9-11

Homecoming Weekend is coming to Colorado College Oct. 9-11! More than 1,000 alumni and guests are expected to return to campus for a weekend of reconnecting, celebrating, and experiencing CC today.

Throughout the weekend, the campus will be buzzing with class reunions, Tiger Athletics events, Micro Blocks with CC faculty, affinity receptions, a campus picnic, and plenty of opportunities for alumni to reconnect with the people and places that shaped their CC experience.

Bonner Fellow Returns to Refugee Camp to Teach

For many college students, summer is a time for rest, internships, or travel. For Doe Reh, a Karenni American Bonner Fellow, it was a homecoming. Born in Section 8 of a Karenni refugee camp along the Thai-Myanmar border and immigrating to the United States at the age of three, Reh returned to his birthplace to spend two months teaching English at Deeku Education Center (DEC) and Karenni National College (KnNC). What he thought would be simply an internship—a chance to teach, complete a project, and make some sort of difference—became a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and reconnection. As he stared out the airplane window on his way to Thailand, only one thought came to mind: his students. Some orphans, some far from their homes, but all fighting for a better future.

Spend an Evening Laughing With Paula Poundstone

Iconic comedian Paula Poundstone brings her smart observational humor and legendary spontaneous wit to the FAC on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. Known for her HBO comedy specials and as a regular panelist on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!, Poundstone has built a career around her quick wit, distinctive delivery, and one-of-a-kind interactions with audiences.
