NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates |
The U.S. National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU) program supports research by undergraduate students in any area of research funded by NSF. Undergraduates can apply directly to REU Sites to participate in research projects across the United States and the world. REU-supported students receive stipends and in many cases assistance with housing, meals and travel. For additional research opportunities, explore the Information for Undergraduates here.

The New Jersey Water Environment Association (NJWEA) Scholarship |
NJWEA is awarding scholarships based on academic performance, merit, and demonstrated interest in the environment. Awards are for the current school year. Additional information is available here. The deadline is March 15. Last year, a CEOE student was awarded this scholarship so consider applying.

American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Southern New Jersey Scholarship
|
This scholarship is open to civil engineering students who are at least a sophomore and reside in Southern New Jersey. Additional information is available here. The deadline is March 15, 2025.

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) New Jersey Scholarship |
ASCE New Jersey has published their scholarship applications. It is open to students entering their junior or senior year in civil engineering in Fall 2025. Additional information is available here. The application requires multiple steps and signatures, so plan ahead. The department has received a number of these awards each year, so consider applying. The deadline is March 1, 2025.

Concrete Industry Foundation Scholarship |
The department is able to nominate one civil engineering junior or AMP student for the upcoming Concrete Industry Foundation Scholarship.
The department is able to nominate one student. If you are interested in being considered, please submit:
- Your resume
- Half a page essay that describes your personal and career objectives, particularly those related to the architectural, engineering or construction industry
The selected nominee will then submit the full application and essay. Please send this to Prof. Jagupilla (sjagupil@stevens.edu) and Liz O'Connell (eoconne2@stevens.edu) by Monday, February 17, 2025.

Hispanic Scholars Foundation |
Students may apply to be a Hispanic Scholar for the 2025-2026 academic year through February 15. Participants receive a scholarship and mentorship throughout the program. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and be of hispanic heritage. Additional information is available here. Numerous CEOE students have received this scholarship.

The National Academy of Construction Scholarship |
The National Academy of Construction Scholarship is accepting applications for their scholarship program. Students must be at least a junior in the Fall 2025 semester. The program is also available to students pursuing a master's degree. Additional information is here and the deadline to apply is March 31, 2025.

The Land Conservation of New Jersey Scholarship |
The Land Conservation of New Jersey is accepting applications for their scholarship program with scholarships up to $10,000. Interested candidates must be New Jersey residents and full-time students with at least 45 undergraduate credits completed at a college or university, with an academic average equivalent to a 3.3 or higher. Additional information is here. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2025.

Professional Women in Construction New Jersey Scholarship |
The NJ Chapter of Professional Women in Construction is pleased to offer a scholarship program to support the next generation of women pursuing degrees in engineering and construction-related industries. Additional information is here.
The deadline to apply is March 21, 2025. Over the years, multiple CEOE students have received this award, so students are suggested to apply.

Thornton Tomasetti Foundation Scholarship |
The Thornton Tomasetti Foundation will award national scholarship is based upon candidate's career goals,
academic accomplishment and demonstrated interest in the integration of engineering and architecture and technology. Applicants must be at least a senior and planning to pursue a master's degree in civil engineering with a focus in structural engineering.
The department is able to nominate one student. If you are interested in being considered, please submit:
- Your resume
- An 100-200 word essay detailing why you think structural engineering is important (see the application for additional details).
- Your future plans of studies

Where will you LAND?: Intro to Land Development and Early Career Advice
|
In this seminar, two recent CEOE alumni will provide an overview of a career in Land Development. They will explain the process of Site Civil Design, covering how land is developed to comply with regulations while meeting the needs of both clients and the community. Additionally, they will offer early career advice to help prepare attendees for entering the workforce.
Speakers: Jenna Scuteri graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in 2024 with a BE in Civil Engineering. While on campus, she was involved in ASCE where she held the position of Vice President. Jenna joined the Gladstone Design Team as an intern in the summer of 2023, and returned as a full-time Design Engineer in the summer of 2024. Currently, she is responsible for the design and planning of sites, including grading, site layout, and stormwater management, and has worked on a variety of projects including multi-family/single-family residential, golf courses, warehouses, and more.
Morgan Westerby graduated from Stevens in 2023 with a BE in Civil Engineering and a graduate certificate in Geotechnical Engineering after completing the co-op program. Through the program, she had the opportunity to work at Stantec, Inc. in the NYC office in the transportation department, and Keller, Inc. in the jet grouting department in NY, NJ, VA, and ME. She joined the Gladstone Design team last year as a design engineer, and has worked on a variety of projects including subdivisions, residential development, stormwater design, and more. At Stevens, she was on the ASCE social chair and a captain of the women's lacrosse team.

This event is a great opportunity to learn more about research initiatives and potential opportunities in CEOE while connecting with researchers, faculty, staff and students. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in lab tours for a few of the department laboratories.

Speaker: Bernie McNeilly is an Executive Vice President at LiRo-Hill. He is responsible for the delivery and growth of the design capabilities of the firm, as well as the New Jersey and New England offices. This includes civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, telecommunications, architecture and sustainable design, GIS/survey as well as BIM/virtual design and construction services for public and private clients alike. The spotlight is on client delivery in the Northeast Corridor with responsibility for strategy, execution and delivery for all design markets and services.
Previously as President-Northeast Region WSP USA, Bernie was responsible for the continued growth of one of the leading engineering firms in the Northeast. He played an integral role in high-profile projects in New York City including the LaGuardia Central Terminal Building PPP, Gateway Trans Hudson Tunnels, the Raising of the Roadway on the Bayonne Bridge, the Widening of the NJ Turnpike 6-9 Interchanges, and the Restoration of the WTC Transportation System.
Bernie has a Master’s Degree in Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and holds a professional engineering license in multiple states. He is also a part of Dean Zu's SES Advisory Board Team.
