CDC Health Advisory:
Ebola Outbreak Caused by Sudan virus in Uganda
February 6, 2025
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have issued a Health Advisory about the recently confirmed outbreak of Ebola disease in Uganda caused by Sudan virus (species Sudan ebolavirus). This advisory summarizes CDC’s recommendations regarding case identification, testing, and clinical laboratory biosafety.
Currently, no suspected, probable, or confirmed Ebola cases related to this outbreak have been reported in the United States, or outside Uganda. However, as a precaution-- and due to other viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) outbreaks in East Africa--CDC is raising awareness about this outbreak and sharing best practices. CDC has also issued a Travel Health Notice Level 2: Practice Enhanced Precautions for people traveling to Uganda.
Clinicians should contact Public Health immediately if Ebola is suspected.
