GENIUS Act: U.S. Senators Advocate for States |
Senate Banking Subcommittee on Digital Assets Chair Cynthia Lummis (WY) led Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Bill Hagerty (TN), Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Kevin Cramer (ND), Catherine Cortez Masto (NV), and Pete Ricketts (NE) in sending a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urging the Treasury Department to preserve the role of states in chartering and supervising payment stablecoin issuers.
Excerpt: "The GENIUS Act’s inclusion of an annual recertification requirement further supports the conclusion that certification is intended to function as a continuing process and partnership between Federal and State authorities. Treasury’s implementation should reflect that structure. We respectfully request that Treasury provide written procedural guidance on the State certification process and confirm that certification will remain available to states on an ongoing basis."
