As our country moves towards a tumultuous and polarized election season, I am encouraged when I reflect upon the wisdom and insights regarding the positive roles of institutions in promoting the common good. In the midst of so much national, cultural, and religious disagreement, it was a real encouragement to see so many thoughtful, intelligent scholars, practitioners, leaders, and students from across the country come together on the Baylor campus. During the Symposium, we learned a lot from the papers and panels from a wide variety of disciplines and perspectives. However, the Symposium was not simply about learning. Rather, we also shared meals, worshiped together, met new friends, and reconnected with old friends. It was this communal environment which made possible the respectful exploration and disagreement as we explored the challenges and positive possibilities for the institutions which impact each of our lives every day. I, at least, walked away excited and encouraged about the possibility for institutions of higher education, such as Baylor and the schools of many attendees, to help promote the common good not only through communicating knowledge but also through the experiences of constructive and creative community like the one we shared at the Symposium.

Baylor Symposium on Faith and Culture: Renewing & Reimagining Institutions for the Common Good |
The Institute for Faith and Learning is grateful for a wonderful 2024 Symposium full of insightful discussions and connections between students, scholars, and practitioners.
We appreciate everyone who came and also everyone who helped to make the conference a success.
With more than 80 speakers representing over 90 institutions and more than 520 total attendees, the conference was one of the largest in the Symposium's 18-year history.
Check out the photos and videos from the Symposium below.
We look forward to seeing you in February 2026 for the next Symposium: "Technology and the Human Person in the Age of AI."

We are so grateful that our own Crane Scholars got to present at this year’s symposium. Three students presented excellent papers. The three papers were titled:
|
-
“Christianity and the University: Educating for Universal Priesthood and Friendship”, Sam Byassee
- “Consistency, Authority, and Right Order”, Gavriella Persing
- “Inheriting Wisdom: The Vital Role of Institutions in Society”, Emma Freemyer
|
We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing the impact of their work in the years to come as they continue to excel in their academic and professional careers.

We have loved bringing Missio to the Louise Herrington School of Nursing on Baylor’s Dallas campus. Thanks to Dean Plank and the wonderful faculty and staff team for welcoming IFL on campus for a series of lunch colloquiums to explore how Christian faith impacts the formation of ethical and caring nurses. We are excited to continue expanding Missio in the spring.
