Dear Faculty and Staff,

As we shared recently, Colorado College is launching an Institutional Review to help us better understand how our resources—our people, funds, technology, and physical spaces—are aligned with our mission and strategic priorities. I’m pleased to share that, following a thorough selection process, we have engaged the consulting firm Baker Tilly to lead this work.

Baker Tilly is a nationally recognized firm with deep expertise in organizational assessment, operational effectiveness, and resource alignment across higher education. They proposed a comprehensive methodology emphasizing transparency, collaboration, and broad campus participation. The selection committee was encouraged by their commitment to engaging all areas of the College, ensuring the resulting recommendations reflect institutional priorities and the lived realities of the CC community.

Baker Tilly’s diverse review team brings experience that complements the strengths we already have on our campus, and their objective perspective will help us gain clarity in an increasingly challenging higher education landscape.

Colorado College currently works with Baker Tilly for tax, audit, and advisory services. This familiarity means they understand our operations and our context. However, it’s important to note that the team conducting the Institutional Review is part of Baker Tilly’s consulting arm, which is operationally separate from the divisions that support our work in the financial space.

This separation ensures that:

  • There is no overlap in personnel or scope between their existing work and this review, and
  • Their findings will be independent, unbiased, and solely focused on CC’s long-term health and effectiveness.

What comes next
In the coming weeks, we will share additional details about the project timeline and the participation Baker Tilly will need from departments across campus.

As a reminder, I am hosting a Work of the College Series event about this topic this Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 3-4 p.m. in Gaylord Hall. I encourage you to attend, ask questions, and learn more about the purpose, scope, and goals of the Institutional Review.

Partnering with Baker Tilly positions us to undertake this effort thoughtfully and collaboratively, and I look forward to keeping you updated as the work progresses.

Sincerely,

Pedro de Araujo

Dean of the College and Chief Operating Officer
