NIH has a video overview of changes (25 minutes) and will host several webinars throughout summer and fall. Learn more
UNCG extends Box contract for research data through July 2025 Information Technology Services (ITS) and the Office of Research and Engagement (ORE) will extend UNCG’s contract with Box through July 2025 for research data. This is a strategic step to ensure a smooth and efficient transition as we develop, build, and move to a new research storage solution. Researchers have full access to Box and its features until ITS and ORE announce a data migration schedule.

... about UNCG's status as a "minority-serving institute" (MSI)?
We often call UNCG a minority-serving institution, but when it comes to eligibility for a particular grant, UNCG does not always meet the definition of an MSI. Because "MSI" is not codified in U.S. law, the application of the term can vary. Many grant opportunities adopt a narrow definition of MSI, limiting eligibility to HBCUs (defined in Title III, Part B); Hispanic-serving institutions; tribal colleges or universities; and institutions that serve high numbers of Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander students. Grants using this narrow definition may reference this listing from the US Department of Education.
UNCG is recognized by the Dept of Ed as a Title III, Part A institution due to the substantial percentage of students receiving Pell Grants (See our 2024 eligibility letter). But this is not necessarily the same as minority-serving.
When sponsors or grant opportunities adopt other definitions of MSI (such as an enrollment-based definition), UNCG can be eligible.
The take-away: when considering a new funding opportunity that privileges MSIs, do not assume UNCG will qualify. Instead, look carefully at the grant announcement to understand how MSI is defined. If you need help or confirmation of UNCG's MSI status for a particular grant, contact OSP by emailing research@uncg.edu. Learn more
